Character Stats & Attributes

Surviving the unforgiving Amazonian jungle in Green Hell hinges on a deep understanding and careful management of your character's vital statistics. Unlike traditional RPGs, there are no skill trees or experience points to allocate. Instead, your attributes are dynamic, constantly fluctuating based on your actions, diet, and environmental exposure. Mastering these stats is key to long-term survival.

Core Vitals

These are the fundamental meters you must always monitor. Neglecting any of these will quickly lead to debilitating status effects and, ultimately, death.

  • Health (Red Bar): Your primary life force. This decreases from combat, falls, poisoning, sickness, and low sanity. Keep it above zero!
    • Recovery: Health regenerates slowly over time if all other vitals are in good standing and you are well-fed/hydrated. Faster recovery can be achieved through restful sleep (in a shelter like a Small Shelter or Bed), consuming specific healing items like Leaf Bandages (for wounds), or medicinal plants such as the Tobacco Leaf (for venom).
    • Critical State: If Health drops too low, you'll enter a critical state, indicated by blurred vision and heavy breathing, making combat and movement difficult.
  • Stamina (Green Bar): Governs physical exertion like running, attacking, and chopping. Depletes rapidly with strenuous activity.
    • Recovery: Stamina regenerates quickly when you are standing still or walking. Resting (sitting or sleeping) significantly boosts regeneration.
    • Management: Avoid sustained sprinting unless absolutely necessary. Pace yourself during combat and resource gathering to prevent exhaustion.
  • Hydration (Blue Droplet): Represents your body's water content. Essential for all bodily functions.
    • Depletion: Increases with physical activity, high temperatures, and consuming salty foods.
    • Replenishment: Drink clean water from sources like Coconuts, Water Filters, or boiled river water. Be wary of untreated water, which can lead to parasites.
    • Consequences: Low hydration causes blurred vision, reduced stamina regeneration, and eventually health loss.
  • Energy (Yellow Lightning Bolt): Your overall energy levels. Affects stamina regeneration and mental clarity.
    • Depletion: Decreases over time and with physical exertion.
    • Replenishment: Primarily restored through sleep. Eating high-calorie foods also provides a minor boost.
    • Consequences: Low energy leads to slower stamina regeneration, increased hunger, and eventually health loss.

Macronutrients

Beyond basic hunger, your body requires specific macronutrients. These are tracked via four distinct meters in your watch interface. A balanced diet is crucial for maintaining optimal health and avoiding deficiencies.

  • Carbohydrates (Carbs): Provides quick energy.
    • Sources: Fruits (e.g., Banana, Guarana Fruit), some mushrooms, honey.
    • Deficiency: Leads to weakness and reduced stamina.
  • Fats: Long-term energy storage and vital for organ function.
    • Sources: Nuts (e.g., Brazil Nut), animal fat (from hunting), some fish.
    • Deficiency: Causes fatigue and slower healing.
  • Proteins: Essential for muscle repair and growth.
    • Sources: Cooked meat (e.g., Tapir Meat, Fish Meat), insects (e.g., Grub), eggs.
    • Deficiency: Results in muscle weakness and increased susceptibility to illness.
  • Water (Nutrient): Distinct from Hydration, this represents the water content derived from food.
    • Sources: Most fruits (e.g., Coconut Flesh), some vegetables.
    • Deficiency: Contributes to overall dehydration.

Strategy: Aim for a varied diet. Don't just eat what's readily available; actively seek out different food types to keep all macronutrient meters in the green. Cooked food is generally safer and more nutritious than raw.

Sanity (Brain Icon)

Your mental state is as crucial as your physical one. The jungle is a terrifying place, and isolation takes its toll.

  • Depletion:
    • Eating raw/rotten food.
    • Witnessing disturbing events (e.g., dead bodies, tribal rituals).
    • Being in darkness for extended periods.
    • Hearing unsettling sounds (often a precursor to hallucinations).
    • Suffering from certain illnesses or injuries.
  • Replenishment:
    • Sleeping in a proper shelter.
    • Eating cooked, clean food.
    • Crafting items (especially complex ones).
    • Being near a lit Campfire.
    • Consuming specific items like Honey or the Psychotria Leaf.
  • Consequences of Low Sanity:
    • Hallucinations: You'll start seeing and hearing things that aren't there – phantom tribesmen, animals, or even your own reflection. These can be incredibly disorienting and dangerous, as they can obscure real threats.
    • Whispers: Constant, unnerving whispers will plague your ears, further increasing stress.
    • Self-Harm: In extreme cases, low sanity can lead to self-inflicted wounds, causing health loss.

Strategy: Prioritize sanity. A stable base with a campfire and a bed is essential. Always cook your food, and try to avoid unnecessary exposure to darkness or disturbing scenes. If sanity drops, immediately seek out ways to boost it.

Body Inspection (Q Menu)

This isn't a "stat" in the traditional sense, but it's a critical interface for managing your character's well-being. Regularly inspect your arms and legs for injuries, parasites, and leeches.

  • Wounds: Cuts, abrasions, lacerations. Treat with Leaf Bandages, Ash Dressings, or Honey Dressings. Untreated wounds can become infected.
  • Rashes: Often caused by contact with poisonous plants. Treat with Tobacco Dressing.
  • Leeches: Visible on your skin. Remove them manually by clicking on them. Failure to remove them will lead to blood loss and potential infection.
  • Parasites: Caused by drinking dirty water or eating raw/rotten food. Indicated by a worm icon on your watch. Treat with Mushroom Antidote (from Blue Mushrooms) or Bone Broth.
  • Venom: From snake or spider bites. Indicated by a skull icon. Treat immediately with a Tobacco Leaf or Lily Flower.

Pro-Tip: Make it a habit to check your body after any significant activity or combat encounter. Early detection and treatment of ailments can save your life.
