While Green Hell doesn't feature extensive character customization, you do choose your difficulty setting, which significantly impacts your experience. The available difficulties are:
- Tourist: Reduced damage from enemies, increased resource spawns, and less severe sanity drain. Ideal for learning the ropes.
- Survival: The standard Green Hell experience. Balanced resource availability and enemy threat.
- Welcome to the Jungle: Increased enemy damage, rarer resources, faster sanity drain, and more aggressive predators. For experienced survivors.
- King of the Jungle: The ultimate challenge. Extremely rare resources, highly aggressive enemies, rapid sanity drain, and permanent death (no respawn). Only for the most hardcore players.
- Custom: Allows you to fine-tune individual parameters like enemy aggression, resource abundance, and disease frequency.
For your first playthrough, Survival is recommended to get the authentic Green Hell experience without being overwhelmed. You can always adjust settings in a custom game later.
