Dr. Breen (Dark Energy Reactor)

Defeat Dr. Breen by using the supercharged Gravity Gun to launch Dark Energy Orbs into the reactor's conduits, while fending off Combine.

Location: Chapter 14: Dark Energy

Dr. Breen is the final antagonist, but he doesn't fight you directly. Instead, the boss fight involves destroying the Citadel's Dark Energy Reactor while Breen attempts to escape.

Strategy:

  1. Supercharged Gravity Gun is Key: Your blue, supercharged Gravity Gun is your primary tool for this fight.
  2. Target the Energy Conduits: The Dark Energy Reactor is protected by several large energy conduits (usually glowing orange). Breen will activate these.
  3. Launch Dark Energy Orbs: Breen will generate Dark Energy Orbs that float around the chamber. Use your supercharged Gravity Gun to grab these orbs and launch them into the active energy conduits. Each conduit requires multiple hits to overload.
  4. Deal with Combine Reinforcements: Combine Soldiers will constantly teleport into the chamber to protect Breen. Use your supercharged Gravity Gun to quickly dispatch them (you can grab and launch them, or use their own energy balls). Don't let them overwhelm you.
  5. Alyx's Assistance: Alyx Vance will assist you by targeting Breen's personal shield, temporarily disabling it and making him vulnerable to your attacks (though direct attacks on Breen aren't the primary objective).
  6. Prioritize Conduits: Focus on overloading the conduits. Once all are destroyed, the reactor will destabilize, leading to the final cinematic.
