The Airboat

The airboat is introduced early in the game and is your primary mode of transport through the flooded canals and coastal areas. It's relatively fast and agile on water, allowing you to navigate through narrow passages and avoid obstacles.

  • Controls: Typically controlled with WASD keys for forward/backward movement and steering. The spacebar often controls vertical thrust, allowing you to jump over small obstacles or gain height.
  • Armament: The airboat is equipped with a mounted machine gun, which is effective against smaller enemies like Antlions and basic Combine soldiers. It has limited ammunition, so use it wisely.
  • Vulnerability: The airboat is not heavily armored and can be destroyed by sustained enemy fire, especially from turrets and Gunships. Seek cover when under heavy attack.
  • Environmental Interaction: The airboat can be used to push objects, clear debris, and access areas unreachable on foot.

The Buggy (Dune Buggy)

The buggy is introduced later in the game and is designed for traversing land, particularly the open, rugged terrain outside of City 17. It's more robust than the airboat and offers greater offensive capabilities.

  • Controls: Standard WASD controls for driving. The handbrake (often Shift) can be useful for sharp turns.
  • Armament: The buggy features a mounted rocket launcher, which is highly effective against larger enemies like Striders and Gunships, as well as fortified positions. It also has a forward-mounted machine gun.
  • Durability: The buggy is more durable than the airboat but can still be destroyed. Keep an eye on its condition and avoid unnecessary risks.
  • Traversal: Its suspension allows it to handle rough terrain, making it ideal for navigating the game's more open environments.

The Combine APC (Armored Personnel Carrier)

While not directly controlled by You for extended periods, the Combine APC is a significant vehicle encountered in combat. It's heavily armed and armored, posing a serious threat.

  • Armament: Equipped with powerful cannons and machine guns.
  • Threat: Players often need to disable APCs using the rocket launcher or by targeting their weak points.

Strategic Use of Vehicles

Vehicles are not just for transportation; they are tools for survival and combat:

  • Cover: Use vehicles as mobile cover, ducking behind them to avoid enemy fire.
