They will automatically plant, water, and harvest crops, as well as feed and collect resources from animals. Prioritize settlers with a high 'Gathering' or 'Nature' affinity for this role. Ensure they have easy access to water sources and storage for harvested goods. A well-managed Farmer can provide a consistent and abundant food supply for your entire settlement, reducing the need for manual foraging.
