Grubfather's Rewards

Deep within the Forgotten Crossroads, the benevolent Grubfather eagerly awaits the return of his lost children. Rescuing these adorable, trapped grubs is not only a noble deed but also a highly rewarding endeavor, as the Grubfather bestows valuable items upon the Knight for each grub saved. This guide details the rewards you can expect and offers strategies for maximizing your grub collection.

Finding the Grubs

There are a total of 46 grubs scattered across Hallownest, often hidden behind breakable walls, within challenging platforming sections, or guarded by enemies. Equipping the Grubsong charm (obtained after rescuing 10 grubs) is highly recommended, as it provides Soul when the Knight takes damage, making exploration and combat more forgiving. Additionally, the Grubfather's Map, purchased from Iselda in Dirtmouth, will mark the general locations of unrescued grubs on your map, though it won't pinpoint their exact hiding spots.

Reward Tiers and Strategies

The Grubfather's generosity scales with the number of grubs you bring home. His rewards are cumulative, meaning you'll receive each item as you hit the respective milestone. It's often beneficial to prioritize grub hunting early in your playthrough to gain access to powerful charms and geo boosts.

Post-Game Considerations

After rescuing all 46 grubs and receiving the King's Idol, returning to the Grubfather's home will reveal a disturbing, yet ultimately rewarding, transformation. The Grubfather will have consumed all of his children, becoming a massive, bloated creature. Striking him will cause him to drop a significant amount of Geo, representing the final "reward" for your efforts. This act does not negatively impact your game progression or achievements, and is simply a unique, if unsettling, conclusion to the Grubfather's questline.
