The sprawling, labyrinthine kingdom of Hallownest can be incredibly disorienting. Fortunately, the game provides tools to help you map your progress and navigate its treacherous depths. This guide focuses on the Map, the Quill, and the Compass, essential items for any explorer seeking to chart the entirety of Hallownest.

Your primary tool for navigation is the Map. Initially, you will have no map of any area. To obtain a map of a new region, you must find Cornifer the Cartographer, a traveling merchant who sells maps. He can usually be found in the earliest accessible part of each new zone.

After purchasing a map from Cornifer, it will initially show only the rooms you have visited. To update the map with new passages, secrets, and points of interest, you need the Quill. The Quill is also purchased from Cornifer, usually after you've bought the map for a region. Once you have the Quill, simply visit a Bench, and your map will automatically update to reflect all explored areas since your last bench visit.

The Compass is another invaluable tool, especially in areas with many branching paths or when backtracking. When equipped (it's a charm that takes up a slot), the Compass displays your current position as a small icon on your map. This prevents you from getting lost and helps you efficiently find your way around.
