Enemies (Bestiary)
Hallownest is teeming with diverse and dangerous creatures, each with unique attack patterns and vulnerabilities. Understanding your foes is crucial for survival and progression. This section details common enemies, their locations, and effective strategies to overcome them.
Common Foes & Early Game Encounters
Vengefly
- Location: King's Pass, Forgotten Crossroads, Greenpath.
- Description: Basic flying enemy that charges horizontally. Often found in groups.
- Strategy:
- A single Nail strike will dispatch them.
- Use an upward Nail strike (jump + attack) if they are above you.
- If facing multiple, try to bait one into charging, then strike it down before the others engage.
- The Vengeful Spirit spell can clear groups quickly if you have Soul.
Husk Guard
- Location: Forgotten Crossroads, Greenpath.
- Description: Larger, armored husks that wield a club. They have more health than standard Husks and a predictable, slow overhead swing.
- Strategy:
- Dash through their attack or jump over it, then strike from behind.
- You can get 2-3 Nail hits in after they swing before they recover.
- If you have the Mothwing Cloak, dashing through them is the safest approach.
- Focus on dodging their slow attack and counter-attacking.
Gruzzer
- Location: Forgotten Crossroads, Greenpath.
- Description: Small, flying insects that dart around erratically. Upon defeat, they explode into smaller Gruzzerflies.
- Strategy:
- Prioritize these enemies, especially in tight spaces, as their explosion can be dangerous.
- Use a well-timed Nail strike as they approach.
- The Vengeful Spirit spell is excellent for taking out both the main Gruzzer and its spawned Gruzzerflies simultaneously.
- Be prepared to dodge the smaller projectiles after the initial Gruzzer is defeated.
Advanced Threats & Mid-Game Challenges
Moss Knight
- Location: Greenpath.
- Description: Large, heavily armored knights covered in moss. They have a powerful charge attack and a wide Nail swing.
- Strategy:
- Phase 1 (Charge): When they charge, jump over them or dash through them with the Mothwing Cloak.
- Phase 2 (Nail Swing): After their charge, they often perform a wide horizontal swing. Stay close and try to get behind them during this animation.
- Hit them 2-3 times after dodging their attacks, then prepare for their next move.
- Spells like Vengeful Spirit or Desolate Dive can deal significant damage and provide invincibility frames during their attacks.
- Consider equipping the Shaman Stone charm to boost spell damage against these tougher foes.
Fungoon
- Location: Fungal Wastes.
- Description: Mushroom-like creatures that puff out clouds of spores when approached or struck.
- Strategy:
- Approach cautiously. You can often hit them once and then immediately back away to avoid the spore cloud.
- If you have the Longnail or Mark of Pride charms, you can often strike them from a safe distance, avoiding the spores entirely.
- Alternatively, use a spell like Vengeful Spirit from a distance to defeat them without getting close.
- The spores deal minimal damage but can interrupt your movement and make platforming difficult.
