Traces Explained
Traces are a vital part of character progression in Honkai: Star Rail, offering passive buffs and powerful active abilities that significantly enhance a character's combat effectiveness. Unlocking and upgrading Traces allows you to tailor your characters to specific roles and playstyles, making them more potent in battle. These enhancements range from increased stats to entirely new combat mechanics.
Each character has a unique set of Traces, categorized into three tiers: Basic, Skill, and Ultimate. Additionally, there are Bonus Abilities that unlock at specific Ascension levels, providing further passive benefits. Understanding how to acquire the necessary materials and strategically upgrade these Traces is key to maximizing your characters' potential.
Trace Categories:
- Basic Attack Traces: These enhance your character's basic attack damage, often increasing its potency or adding secondary effects.
- Skill Traces: These focus on improving your character's Skill, which is typically used to deal damage, apply buffs, or debuffs. Upgrades might increase damage multipliers, reduce Skill Point costs, or add new effects.
- Ultimate Traces: These amplify your character's Ultimate ability, the most powerful attack or effect they possess. Enhancements can include increased damage, reduced Energy cost, or additional debuffs.
- Bonus Abilities: These are passive buffs that unlock as you Ascend your character. They can range from stat increases (like Crit Rate or ATK) to unique effects, such as gaining Energy when an enemy is defeated or increasing damage against specific enemy types.
Trace Materials:
Upgrading Traces requires specific materials, often obtained from:
- Calyxes: These dungeons drop Trace materials of varying rarities.
- Echoes of War: Weekly bosses can drop rare Trace materials.
- Simulated Universe: Certain rewards in the Simulated Universe can include Trace materials.
- World Shops: Some vendors in different worlds offer Trace materials.
Strategic Upgrading:
It's not always necessary to max out every Trace immediately. Prioritize upgrades based on your character's role and your current needs:
- DPS Characters: Focus on enhancing their damage-dealing Traces (Basic Attack, Skill, Ultimate).
