Pushing Characters to Max Potential

Maximize your Honkai: Star Rail characters by focusing on key progression systems. This guide details how to effectively level up characters, enhance their Traces, equip powerful Relics and Light Cones, and unlock potent Eidolons. Strategic investment in these areas is crucial for overcoming challenging content and building a formidable team.

Character Leveling and Ascension

The foundation of character strength lies in their level and ascension. Higher levels unlock stat bonuses and allow for further advancement of Traces. Ascension requires specific materials found in the Calyx (Crimson) and Calyx (Golden) instances, as well as from defeated elite enemies and bosses. Prioritize ascending your main damage dealers and support characters first.

Trace Enhancement

Traces represent a character's unique abilities and passive buffs. Enhancing them significantly boosts their effectiveness. This involves using Skill Points, Talent Materials, and Enemy Materials. Skill Points are generated through basic attacks and character abilities, while Talent Materials are farmed from specific Calyxes. Enemy Materials are dropped by common enemies encountered throughout the game. Focus on upgrading the Traces that directly impact your character's role, such as damage multipliers for attackers or healing/buffing capabilities for supports.

Relics and Planar Ornaments

Relics are equipment pieces that provide substantial stat boosts and set bonuses. They are obtained from the Echo of War and the World boss encounters, as well as the Caverns of Corrosion. Each character can equip four Relics, and two Planar Ornaments. The main stats on Relics are determined by the slot, but substats are randomized. Aim for Relics with stats that complement your character's build, such as Critical Rate, Critical Damage, ATK%, or SPD. The best Relic sets often depend on the character's role and kit.

Light Cones

Light Cones are your characters' weapons, providing base stats and unique passive effects. They can be obtained through Warping, purchasing from the Starlight Exchange, or as rewards from certain events. Leveling up Light Cones increases their base stats, and Superimposing them (using duplicates) enhances their passive effect. Choose Light Cones that synergize with your character's abilities and playstyle. For example, a DPS character might benefit from a Light Cone that increases their damage output, while a support might prefer one that boosts their energy regeneration.

Eidolons

Eidolons are powerful upgrades unlocked by obtaining duplicate copies of a character. Each Eidolon provides a unique bonus, ranging from stat increases to entirely new mechanics. While not essential for all characters, some Eidolons can dramatically alter a character's performance and unlock their full potential. Prioritize obtaining Eidolons for your favorite or most used characters, especially those that offer significant boosts to their core abilities. Some characters have particularly impactful Eidolons at E1, E2, or E6.
