Chapter 8: Neighbors
Welcome to "Neighbors," a chapter that tests your ability to adapt and utilize the environment to your advantage. This level introduces new enemy types and tight corridors, demanding precise movement and quick decision-making. We'll break down each floor to ensure a smooth, bloody clear.
Floor 1: The Ground Floor Gauntlet
You'll start this level in a relatively open area, but don't let that fool you. Enemies here are often armed with firearms, making direct confrontation risky. Your primary goal is to clear the initial rooms and secure a better weapon.
- Initial Engagement: Upon spawning, you'll likely face an enemy directly in front of you. Quickly dispatch them with your starting weapon (usually a Fists or a weak blunt object).
- First Room Clear: Move into the first room to your immediate right. Expect at least one armed enemy here. Use the door as cover, peeking to get a shot or a quick melee attack. If they have a firearm, prioritize taking it. The Pistol is an excellent early-game weapon for its range and quick fire rate.
- Corridor Ambush: As you move further down the main corridor, be wary of enemies emerging from side rooms. A common tactic is to lure them out, then quickly retreat and ambush them as they round a corner. The Baseball Bat, if found, is superb for its wide swing and knock-down power against multiple foes.
- Kitchen Carnage: The kitchen area often contains a few enemies, sometimes including a tough melee opponent. Look for throwable items like the Frying Pan or Bottle to stun and disarm.
- Stairwell Ascent: Once the ground floor is clear, locate the stairwell. Before ascending, ensure you have a reliable firearm (like the Shotgun, if you've found one) or a strong melee weapon.
Floor 2: The Upper Level Blitz
The second floor is characterized by narrower hallways and more aggressive enemies, often grouped together. Precision and speed are key here.
- Stairwell Entry: As you emerge from the stairwell, you'll often be immediately confronted by an enemy or two. Have your weapon ready. A quick shotgun blast or a well-aimed pistol shot can clear the immediate threat.
- Hallway Patrols: The main hallway on this floor is usually patrolled by enemies. Use the doors of the adjacent rooms to your advantage. Open a door, fire, and quickly close it to avoid incoming fire. This "door-peek" strategy is invaluable.
- Bedroom Brawls: The bedrooms typically house one or two enemies. Some might be armed with melee weapons, others with firearms. If you have a firearm, consider shooting through the door if you can see an enemy's silhouette. Otherwise, burst in and quickly eliminate them. The Knife is excellent for its quick execution animation, saving precious seconds.
- Bathroom Break: Don't overlook the bathrooms. They often contain a single enemy and sometimes a useful throwable item like a Bottle.
- Final Room: The last room on this floor usually contains the final few enemies. This can be a challenging encounter, so ensure you have enough ammunition or a powerful melee weapon. If you're low on ammo, try to lure enemies out one by one into the hallway for easier takedowns.
General Strategies for "Neighbors"
- Mask Choice: For "Neighbors," the Tony (Tiger) mask (for instant kills with fists) can be surprisingly effective on the first floor if you're confident in your melee skills, allowing you to conserve ammo. Alternatively, Don Juan (Horse) for door kills is always a solid choice for clearing rooms.
- Sound Management: Firing unsuppressed weapons will alert nearby enemies. Use this to your advantage to draw enemies into choke points, but be mindful of accidentally alerting too many at once.
- Weapon Prioritization: Always prioritize picking up firearms, especially the Shotgun or Uzi, as they offer significant crowd control and damage output. Keep a strong melee weapon as a backup for when ammo runs dry.
- Patience and Observation: Take a moment to observe enemy patrol patterns through windows or by peeking around corners. Rushing in blindly will often lead to a quick death.
- Execution Kills: Remember that executing downed enemies with a melee weapon or by stomping on them will replenish your combo meter, which is crucial for achieving high scores.
By following these detailed steps and employing smart tactics, you'll navigate the treacherous halls of "Neighbors" and emerge victorious, leaving a trail of chaos in your wake.
