Chapter 9: Crackdown

Welcome to "Crackdown," a challenging chapter that demands precision and quick reflexes. This level is set in a multi-story building, requiring careful navigation and strategic enemy elimination. Expect tight corridors and multiple enemy types, including armed guards and melee combatants. Your goal is to clear each floor and eliminate all hostiles.

Recommended Masks & Strategy

  • Tony (Tiger Mask): Provides a powerful melee attack, instantly killing most enemies with a punch. Excellent for conserving ammo and maintaining combos.
  • Don Juan (Horse Mask): Allows doors to instantly kill enemies when opened into them. This is incredibly useful for clearing rooms quickly and silently, especially on the upper floors.
  • Carl (Cockroach Mask): Grants you the ability to disarm enemies with a throw. While less direct than Tony or Don Juan, it can be a lifesaver if you prefer a more tactical approach or find yourself low on weapons.

Floor 1: Ground Level Assault

You begin on the ground floor. This area is relatively open, but enemies are positioned to cover multiple angles. Prioritize eliminating the armed guards first.

  1. Initial Entry: Immediately after spawning, move to the right. There's usually a guard patrolling the hallway. Use a quick melee attack or a silenced weapon if you brought one.
  2. Room Clearing (Left): Enter the first room on your left. Expect at least two enemies, one often armed with a Shotgun. Use the doorway as cover, peeking out to take shots or using a door-kill with Don Juan.
  3. Central Hallway: Proceed down the main hallway. Be wary of a guard often positioned near the stairs, sometimes carrying a Baseball Bat.
  4. Stairwell Access: Clear the immediate area around the stairs before ascending. There's often a guard at the top of the first flight, so be ready for a quick engagement.

Floor 2: Office Block Skirmish

The second floor features several office cubicles and a central open area. Enemies here are often armed with firearms, making stealth and quick takedowns crucial.

  1. Stair Landing: As you reach the top of the stairs, a guard might be patrolling the landing. Take them out immediately.
  2. Cubicle Maze: Navigate the cubicle area. Enemies will often react to gunfire, so consider using melee weapons like the Katana (if found) or the Lead Pipe for silent takedowns.
  3. Weapon Acquisition: Look for a room on the right side of this floor. You can often find a Machine Gun or a Uzi here, which will be invaluable for the next floor.
  4. Ascend to Floor 3: Once the floor is clear, locate the next set of stairs and proceed upwards.

Floor 3: The Upper Echelon

This is arguably the most challenging floor due to tighter spaces and more heavily armed enemies. Expect multiple guards with automatic weapons.

  1. Immediate Threat: Upon reaching the third floor, be prepared for an immediate confrontation. There's almost always a guard with a Machine Gun directly ahead or patrolling nearby. Use the stairwell entrance as cover.
  2. Corridor Clearance: Move cautiously through the narrow corridors. Enemies are often positioned around corners. Use the "peek and shoot" technique or throw a weapon to stun before closing in for a melee kill.
  3. Final Room: The last room on this floor typically holds the remaining enemies. This room can be a death trap if approached carelessly.
    • Strategy 1 (Aggressive): If you have a powerful firearm like the Shotgun or Machine Gun, burst in and unleash hell.
    • Strategy 2 (Tactical): Use a door-kill with Don Juan, or throw a weapon to disarm and then follow up with melee. Consider luring enemies out one by one if possible.

General Tips for Crackdown

  • Maintain Awareness: Always be aware of enemy patrol patterns and line of sight. Use the camera (default 'Shift' key) to scout ahead.
  • Weapon Management: Don't be afraid to drop a spent firearm for a fresh one, or switch to a melee weapon if ammo is scarce. The Golf Club and Baseball Bat are excellent for one-hit kills against most unarmored enemies.
  • Combo Potential: "Crackdown" offers many opportunities for high combos due to the density of enemies. Chain kills quickly to maximize your score.
  • Patience is Key: This level can be frustrating. If you die, take a moment to rethink your approach for that specific section.
