Selecting a Realm: Cycle vs. Legacy in Last Epoch

When starting your journey in Last Epoch, you'll need to choose between playing in the 'Cycle' realm or the 'Legacy' realm. This decision impacts your progression, economy, and access to your existing characters. Understanding the differences is key to setting up your desired gameplay experience.

The Cycle realm offers a fresh start with a new economy and leaderboards, resetting every few months. Legacy realms, on the other hand, preserve your characters and stashes from previous Cycles, providing a persistent world without competitive leaderboards. Most players begin their adventure in the Cycle.

The Cycle Realm

Cycle realms are desed for a dynamic and competitive experience. Each new Cycle brings:

  • A Fresh Economy: All players start with nothing, leading to a player-driven economy that evolves throughout the Cycle.
  • Reset Leaderboards: This is where players compete for the top spots on various leaderboards, showcasing their achievements.
  • New Content: Often, new Cycles introduce sificant content updates, balance changes, and quality-of-life improvements.

Cycles typically last around 3-4 months, offering a contained period for players to reach endgame goals and compete. When a Cycle ends, your characters and their stashes are migrated to the Legacy realm.

The Legacy Realm

Legacy realms serve as a persistent archive of your characters and progress. Here you will find:

  • All Your Characters: Characters from past Cycles are available to play.
  • Persistent Stashes: Your accumulated items and crafting materials remain accessible.
  • No Leaderboards: The focus is on relaxed progression and enjoying your existing builds.

Legacy is the perfect place to revisit old characters, experiment with builds without pressure, or simply continue playing after a Cycle concludes. However, it lacks the fresh start and competitive edge of the Cycle.

Game Modes and Challenges

Within both Cycle and Legacy, you can choose your game mode:

  • Normal: Standard gameplay with no penalty for death.
  • Hardcore: Permadeath. If your character dies, they are moved to Normal and cannot participate in Hardcore leaderboards.

Additionally, challenge modes like 'Solo Account Found' (shared stash/materials across all characters on the account) and 'Solo Character Found' (completely isolated progress) offer further customization for those seeking specific experiences, often used for races or personal challenges.
