Creating Quartz
Quartz are the heart of the magic and ability system in The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC. These crystalline devices are slotted into characters' "EP (Elemental Power) slots" to grant them access to Arts (spells) and powerful combat Crafts. The process of creating and customizing Quartz is known as "Orbment Crafting," and it's a vital aspect of character development.
To craft Quartz, you'll need two main components:
- Sepith: As detailed previously, Sepith is the raw material. You'll need specific types and quantities of Sepith to create different Quartz.
- Orbment Slots: Each character has a limited number of Orbment slots, arranged in a grid. The layout and number of these slots vary between characters and can be expanded through story progression or specific items.
The crafting process takes place at an "Orbment Station," typically found in towns or at Bracer Guild branches. When you interact with an Orbment Station, you'll have the option to "Craft Quartz."
Here's how it generally works:
- Select a Quartz to Craft: The game presents a list of available Quartz you can create based on the Sepith you possess and the character's Orbment grid layout.
- Check Requirements: Each Quartz has specific Sepith requirements (e.g., 50 Tear Sepith, 30 Aqua Sepith).
- Confirm Crafting: If you have the necessary Sepith, you can confirm the creation. The Sepith will be consumed, and the new Quartz will be added to your inventory.
The strategic placement of Quartz within a character's Orbment grid is just as important as crafting them. The grid has connections, and placing Quartz adjacent to each other can unlock additional benefits or even create entirely new, more powerful Arts. For example, placing a Fire Art Quartz next to a Time Art Quartz might unlock a unique combination Art.
Key considerations for Quartz crafting and placement:
- Character Specialization: Tailor Quartz to each character's strengths. Physical attackers might benefit from stat-boosting Quartz, while mages will want Arts-focused ones.
- Elemental Balance: Ensure your party has a good mix of elemental Arts to exploit enemy weaknesses.
- Stat Boosts: Many Quartz also provide passive stat bonuses (e.g., increased Strength, Defense, EP).
- Synergy: Experiment with different placements to discover synergistic effects and unlock hidden Arts.
Mastering Orbment Crafting is essential for overcoming the game's toughest challenges and customizing your party to your preferred playstyle.
