Understanding enemy weaknesses and resistances is paramount to efficient combat in The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC. Exploiting an enemy's elemental vulnerability can drastically shorten battle times and conserve valuable EP. For instance, many mechanical enemies, such as the various types of 'Guard' units encountered in military facilities, are often weak to Lightning Arts. Conversely, creatures of a more organic nature might possess a resistance to Earth Arts but be susceptible to Fire. The game doesn't always explicitly state these vulnerabilities, requiring players to either experiment or consult reliable resources.
A prime example of this mechanic can be seen when facing the formidable foes associated with the Ouroboros organization. Certain members of the Society, particularly those using specialized combat suits, might exhibit resistance to physical attacks but be highly vulnerable to Arts that exploit their internal mechanisms. Conversely, magical constructs or spectral enemies might be highly resistant to Arts altogether, making physical attacks and Arts like 'Sonic Boom', which deals neutral damage, more effective.
