Emotes
Emotes are a vibrant and expressive way to communicate with your opponent during a Legends of Runeterra match. These animated icons allow you to convey a range of emotions, from playful taunts to respectful acknowledgments, adding a layer of personality and interaction to the game.
Emotes are a cornerstone of cosmetic customization in Legends of Runeterra, offering players a way to inject personality and flair into their gameplay. They are short, animated visual cues that can be activated during a match by clicking on your player icon. Each emote typically features a champion or a thematic character from the game, performing a specific action or displaying an emotion. While they don't affect gameplay mechanics, they are a powerful tool for player expression and can significantly enhance the social aspect of the game.
Types of Emotes:
- Champion Emotes: These are the most common and often tied to specific champions. They usually feature the champion performing an action or saying a line associated with their lore or personality. For example, Jinx might have an emote where she cackles maniacally.
- Generic Emotes: Some emotes are not tied to specific champions and can be used by any player. These often convey more general sentiments like agreement, disagreement, or a simple greeting.
- Event-Exclusive Emotes: Special events often introduce unique emotes that are only available for a limited time. These can be earned through event passes, quests, or purchased with event currency.
- Premium Emotes: Some of the more elaborate or animated emotes might be available for purchase directly in the store using gold or real money.
How to Use Emotes:
Using emotes is simple and intuitive:
- During a Match: Click on your player icon in the bottom left corner of the screen. This will open a radial menu displaying your equipped emotes.
- Select an Emote: Hover over the desired emote and release the click to activate it. Your opponent will see the animation and any associated sound effect.
- Emote Wheel: You can equip up to four emotes at a time in your collection tab. These are the emotes that will appear in your in-game emote wheel.
Strategic and Social Considerations:
While emotes are primarily for fun, they can also be used strategically:
- Taunting: A well-timed emote can be used to playfully taunt an opponent, especially after a successful play.
- BM (Bad Manners): Conversely, excessive or inappropriate emote use can be considered poor sportsmanship. It's generally recommended to use emotes respectfully.
- Expressing Frustration: Sometimes, an emote can be a cathartic way to express frustration after a bad draw or a tough loss.
- Building Rapport: A friendly emote can sometimes diffuse tension or create a more lighthearted atmosphere, especially in casual games.
The collection of emotes is constantly expanding with new sets and events. You can acquire them through various means, including the in-game store, event passes, and sometimes as rewards for completing specific achievements or challenges. Collecting your favorite champion's emotes or a set of thematic emotes can be a rewarding aspect of the game for many players.
