Controls & UI — Legends of Runeterra Guide

Navigating the battlefield and understanding the user interface (UI) are crucial for success in Legends of Runeterra. The game's controls are designed to be intuitive, allowing players to focus on strategy rather than complex commands. Mastering the UI ensures you can quickly access information and execute your plays efficiently.

The primary interaction method in Legends of Runeterra is through your mouse. You'll use the left-click to select cards, units, and targets, and to drag and drop cards from your hand to the board. The right-click can often be used to view card details or cancel certain actions. For mobile devices, touch controls are used, with taps and swipes serving the same functions as mouse clicks and drags.

Let's break down the key components of the UI:

  • The Nexus: Located at the bottom of your side of the board (and top for your opponent), this displays your remaining health. The game ends when a Nexus reaches 0 health.
  • The Hand: Your available cards are displayed at the bottom of the screen. Hovering over a card reveals its full details. Cards that are too expensive to play will be greyed out.
  • The Mana Bar: Located next to your Nexus, this shows your total mana and your available mana for the current turn. It also displays your Spell Mana, which is accumulated and can be used for casting spells.
  • The Attack Token: A visual indicator, usually a sword icon, that shows whose turn it is to attack. It flips between players each turn.
  • The Board: The central area where units are played. It's divided into your side and your opponent's side. Units are played from the hand onto empty spaces.
  • The Deck: Represented by a deck icon, this shows how many cards are left in your deck. Clicking it reveals your discard pile.
  • The History Bar: Usually located on the right side of the screen, this log tracks all actions taken during the game, which can be invaluable for reviewing past plays.
  • The Chat and Emote Window: Typically in the bottom right, this allows for communication with your opponent (though often limited to emotes).

Key controls and interactions include:

  1. Playing Cards: Drag a card from your hand onto an empty space on the board or target an appropriate location/unit if the card requires it.
  2. Attacking: When you have the attack token, click the 'Attack' button (usually in the bottom right) to initiate an attack. Then, drag the units you wish to attack with to the attack zone.
  3. Blocking: When your opponent attacks, you can drag your available units from your board to block their attackers.
  4. Using Champion Abilities: Once a champion levels up, their new ability can often be activated by clicking on them and then targeting as required.
  5. Viewing Card Details: Hover your mouse over any card to see its full text, stats, and cost.

Understanding these controls and UI elements will significantly improve your gameplay experience. Pay attention to the mana costs, the attack token, and the history log to make informed decisions throughout your matches.
