Expedition
Expedition is a popular game mode in Legends of Runeterra that offers a unique, draft-style PvE and PvP experience. Players build a deck by drafting cards from a series of choices, aiming to achieve as many wins as possible before accumulating too many losses. It's a fantastic way to experience a wide variety of cards and archetypes.
Expedition mode offers a dynamic and replayable way to enjoy Legends of Runeterra, blending elements of deck building, drafting, and strategic combat. Whether you play against AI opponents (PvE) or other players (PvP), the core loop remains the same: build a deck from scratch and see how far you can go. Upon entering an Expedition, you'll choose a starting champion and then embark on a drafting process. You'll be presented with a series of card choices, typically consisting of three cards at a time, from which you select one to add to your deck. These choices are often influenced by your chosen champion and the regions they represent, but you'll also encounter cards from other regions, allowing for creative cross-region combinations. As you progress through your draft, you'll also have opportunities to add powerful passive abilities or special bucket cards that can significantly alter your deck's strategy. The goal is to win a set number of games (typically 7) before accumulating a certain number of losses (typically 3). Each win grants you rewards, and the more wins you achieve, the better the rewards become, including card packs, wildcards, and shards. The challenge lies in building a cohesive deck on the fly with limited information and adapting your strategy based on the cards you draft. You might start with a plan to build an aggressive deck, but if the card choices don't support it, you'll need to pivot to a midrange or control strategy. This adaptability is key to success in Expedition. Elite encounters, which are tougher AI opponents with pre-built, powerful decks, appear at certain win thresholds, offering a greater challenge and better rewards. The variety of cards available, combined with the random nature of the draft and the different passive abilities you can acquire, ensures that no two Expeditions are ever the same. It's an excellent mode for learning about new cards and archetypes, as you're exposed to a much wider pool of cards than you might typically encounter in constructed play. Mastering Expedition involves understanding card evaluation in a draft environment, identifying strong synergies, and knowing when to prioritize offense, defense, or utility based on your current deck and opponent.
