The Elusive Key on Floor 5: RIP Suites

Many players find themselves searching for a key on Floor 5, particularly after exploring the main suite areas. If you're having trouble progressing, consider the following:

Check the Bathroom: Often, a key or a crucial item is hidden within the bathroom of one of the suites. Use your Dark-Light Device on suspicious areas like empty tubs or shower curtains.
Vacuum the Vents: use your Poltergust G-00 to vacuum any grates or vents you encounter. Sometimes, a gust of air can reveal a hidden compartment or dislodge a key.
Gooigi's Advantage: Remember that Gooigi can slip through grates and narrow pipes that Luigi cannot. If you see a small opening, switch to Gooigi and explore. There might be a hidden room or a key waiting on the other side.
Examine All Furniture: Poltergust everything! Pull back bedsheets, open drawers, and interact with every piece of furniture. Keys can be cleverly concealed within everyday objects.

Can't Find the Elevator Button?

Elevator buttons are your primary means of progression. If you're missing one for a specific floor, here's a general approach:

Defeat the Floor Boss: In most cases, the elevator button for the next floor is dropped by the boss ghost of the current floor. Ensure you've fully explored and defeated the main spectral threat of the area.
Revisit Key Areas: If you've defeated a boss but still lack the button, retrace your steps through the boss arena and any rooms directly connected to it. Sometimes the button can be slightly off-path or require a final interaction.
Look for Sparkles: The game often provides subtle visual cues. Keep an eye out for small sparkles or a faint glow, which can indicate a dropped item like an elevator button.

Combat & Ghost Encounters

Dealing with Shielded Ghosts

Some ghosts are tougher than others, and those with shields can be particularly frustrating. Here's how to handle them:

Slam Attack: The most effective way to deal with shielded ghosts is to stun them with your Strobulb, then use the Suction Shot to grab their shield. Once grabbed, repeatedly slam them by wiggling the control stick. This will break their shield and leave them vulnerable to a standard capture.
Gooigi Distraction: In some scenarios, you can use Gooigi to distract a shielded ghost while Luigi positions himself for a Suction Shot on the shield.

Running Low on Health?

Luigi's health can deplete quickly in intense ghost battles. Keep these tips in mind:

Break Everything: Many objects in the hotel, from vases to crates, contain hearts that restore Luigi's health. Don't be afraid to vacuum and slam every breakable item you see.
Check Hidden Areas: Use your Dark-Light Device on suspicious paintings or empty spaces. Hidden rooms often contain valuable health pickups.
E. Gadd's Shop: If you're consistently struggling, remember that E. Gadd's lab (accessible via the Virtual Boo) allows you to purchase various items, including hearts and Gold Bones (which revive Luigi upon defeat).

General Exploration & Item Collection

Finding Hidden Gems

Each floor of the Last Resort Hotel has six hidden gems. Finding them all can be a challenge, but here are some common strategies:

Dark-Light Device is Your Friend: Many gems are hidden behind invisible walls, in empty frames, or within seemingly ordinary objects. Scan every suspicious area with your Dark-Light.
Interact with Everything: Pull chains, open drawers, vacuum curtains, and slam furniture. Gems are often revealed through environmental interaction.
Gooigi's Unique Abilities: Don't forget Gooigi can access areas Luigi cannot. If you see a grate, a narrow pipe, or a spike trap, send Gooigi in to explore.
Look for Environmental Puzzles: Some gems require solving a small puzzle, such as activating a specific mechanism or using the Poltergust to manipulate objects in a certain order.

What to Do with Money?

You'll collect a lot of money throughout the hotel in the form of bills, coins, and gold bars. This currency is primarily used at E. Gadd's shop for purchasing helpful items:

Gold Bones: Essential for tougher boss fights, as they grant Luigi an extra life.
Boo Tracker: Helps locate the elusive Boos on each floor.
Gem Finder: Assists in pinpointing the location of hidden gems.
Health Upgrades: While not direct purchases, collecting enough money contributes to your overall score and can indirectly help by allowing you to buy more Gold Bones.
