Weekly Game Planning
Each week of the regular season requires careful planning. You'll choose a 'Weekly Strategy' focusing on either offense, defense, or special teams. This strategy provides boosts to your players in specific areas for the upcoming game. For example, choosing 'Run Stuff' on defense will boost your run defense attributes. You'll also select 'Focus Players' who will receive bonus XP if they perform well in the game.
- Objective: Maximize player performance and XP gain.
- Strategy: Analyze your opponent's strengths and weaknesses. If they have a strong run game, choose a defensive strategy to counter it. If your star QB is facing a weak secondary, make him a focus player.
- Reward: In-game attribute boosts, bonus XP for focus players.
Player Development & XP Spending
Throughout the season, your players will earn XP based on their performance, weekly training, and focus player status. You'll spend this XP in their 'Player Development' screen to upgrade specific attributes or unlock new abilities. Prioritize upgrading key attributes for your star players and addressing weaknesses for developing players. Development traits (Normal, Star, Superstar, X-Factor) dictate how quickly players earn and spend XP, so invest wisely in your high-potential players.
- Objective: Improve player attributes and unlock abilities.
- Strategy: Focus on attributes that align with your scheme and the player's archetype. For example, a 'Deep Threat' WR should prioritize Speed, Deep Route Running, and Catching.
- Reward: Improved player performance, higher OVR, potential for development trait upgrades.
In-Game Management
During games, your coaching decisions are paramount. This includes play-calling, clock management, and making adjustments based on your opponent's tendencies. Don't be afraid to audible out of bad plays or call timeouts strategically. Pay attention to momentum swings and try to capitalize on them. Using your timeouts effectively at the end of halves can be the difference between a win and a loss.
- Objective: Win games, manage clock, make in-game adjustments.
- Strategy: Develop a core set of plays you trust. Learn to read defenses and make pre-snap adjustments. Don't be afraid to go for it on 4th down in certain situations, especially if you have a strong offense.
- Reward: Wins, improved team record, potential playoff berth.
