Objective 1: Sabotage the Race Car

This critical early mission sets the stage for your racing career, giving you a crucial advantage over your rival, Morello. Salieri has tasked you with a discreet act of sabotage to ensure your victory. Precision and stealth are paramount here; a direct confrontation can quickly escalate and jeopardize the entire operation.

Mission Briefing & Preparation

Before heading out, ensure you're equipped for a stealth-focused approach. While combat is an option if things go south, it's best avoided. You'll begin at Salieri's Bar. Speak with Salieri to receive the full details and the location of the mechanic's garage.

Recommended Loadout:
- Melee Weapon: Brass Knuckles or a Lead Pipe (for silent takedowns if necessary).
- Pistol (Optional): Colt 1911 (for emergencies, but try to avoid using it).
- Health Items: Keep a few First Aid Kits on hand.
Vehicle: Take a reliable, inconspicuous vehicle from the bar's parking lot. The "Schubert Six" is a good choice for its balance of speed and handling.

Infiltrating the Garage

Your destination is Giuseppe's Auto Repair, located in the industrial district of Little Italy. Drive carefully, adhering to traffic laws to avoid attracting unwanted attention from the police. Once you arrive, park your vehicle a block or two away to maintain a low profile.

Garage Layout & Guard Patrols

The garage is a medium-sized, L-shaped building with a main entrance and a smaller side door. The race car you need to sabotage, Morello's "Silver Streak," is prominently displayed on a hydraulic lift in the center of the main bay.

Guard 1 (Front Entrance): Patrols the immediate area around the main entrance, occasionally stepping inside the office to the right. His patrol route is a simple loop: front door → office → front door. He has a narrow cone of vision.
Guard 2 (Main Bay): This guard walks a figure-eight pattern around the race car and the adjacent tool benches. He pauses briefly at each end of his patrol. He is the most immediate threat to your objective.
Guard 3 (Rear Alley): Less active, this guard occasionally steps out into the alley behind the garage for a smoke break. He's usually stationary near the dumpster.

Optimal Stealth Route & Takedowns

The most efficient and safest approach is through the side door, which leads directly into the main bay, bypassing Guard 1.

Approach the Side Door: Circle around the left side of the garage from where you parked. Stay close to the building walls and use crates or parked vehicles for cover.
Observe Guard 2: Peer through the side door's window or crack it open slightly. Wait for Guard 2 to be at the furthest point of his patrol from the race car, ideally with his back turned.
Enter and Takedown (Optional):
- Option A (Pure Stealth): If Guard 2 is far enough, you might be able to sneak directly to the car without engaging him. This requires precise timing.
- Option B (Silent Takedown): If you prefer to clear the path, wait for Guard 2 to turn his back as he walks away from the car. Sprint silently behind him and perform a non-lethal melee takedown (press [Square/X] on PlayStation/Xbox, [E] on PC when prompted). Drag his unconscious body behind a stack of tires or under a workbench to prevent discovery.
Avoid Guard 1 & 3: Guard 1 at the front entrance and Guard 3 in the alley are generally out of your immediate path if you stick to the side door and main bay. However, be mindful of any sudden movements or loud noises that might attract their attention.

Sabotaging Morello's "Silver Streak"

Once the path to the car is clear, approach Morello's distinctive silver race car. It will be highlighted by a subtle glow, indicating your interaction point.

Interaction: Press and hold [Triangle/Y] on PlayStation/Xbox or [F] on PC to initiate the sabotage.
Sabotage Method: Tommy will specifically loosen the lug nuts on the front-right wheel. This is a quick and effective method that will cause the wheel to detach during the race, ensuring Morello's spectacular failure without directly implicating you in a more obvious engine tampering.
Duration: The sabotage animation takes approximately 5 seconds. Remain vigilant during this time.

What Happens If You're Spotted?

If a guard spots you, the alarm will be raised. All guards will become hostile and actively search for you. You will then have two choices:

Fight Your Way Out: Engage the guards in combat. This is risky as they are well-armed and can quickly overwhelm you. If you kill them, you might attract police attention outside the garage.
Escape: Flee the garage immediately. If you can escape the premises and break line of sight, the guards will eventually return to their patrol routes. However, the mission objective will remain active, and you'll have to re-infiltrate.

Common Pitfall: Do not attempt to sabotage the car if a guard is actively looking in your direction. Wait for a clear window.

Post-Sabotage & Return

After successfully loosening the lug nuts, your objective will update. You need to report back to Salieri to confirm the job is done.

Primary Objective: Return to Salieri's Bar. This is the direct continuation of the story and will trigger the next cutscene and mission segment.
Alternative (Not Recommended): While the game might technically allow you to drive directly to the race track, doing so will skip important dialogue and story progression at Salieri's. Always prioritize returning to Salieri's Bar first.

Exit the garage using the same side door you entered, or the main entrance if it's clear. Drive back to Salieri's Bar, ensuring you don't attract any unwanted police attention on the way. Park your car in the designated spot outside the bar to complete the objective.

Mission Rewards

Upon successful completion of "Sabotage the Race Car," you will receive:

Cash: $500 (standard payment for a successful job).
Reputation: Increased standing with the Salieri family.
Story Progression: Unlocks the next mission, "Fair Play," where you'll participate in the race itself.
