Brake-drifting is an absolutely essential technique for mastering the highest difficulty setting in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: 200cc. While standard drifting allows players to maintain speed through turns, the extreme speed of 200cc often causes players to overshoot corners even with a drift. Brake-drifting addresses this by allowing players to sificantly tighten their turning radius without fully canceling their drift. This is achieved by tapping the brake button (typically the 'B' button on the Nintendo Switch) while simultaneously holding the drift button and steering.
