The Fire Flower is an offensive item in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe that grants the user the ability to rapidly throw fireballs. These fireballs travel forward from the kart and possess a unique property: they can bounce off walls and other track surfaces. This bouncing characteristic allows for strategic attacks, as the fireballs can hit opponents multiple times or from unexpected angles. The Fire Flower provides a limited number of throws, typically three, before it is depleted.

The optimal use of the Fire Flower is in situations where you can maximize its multi-hit potential and bouncing capabilities. It is excellent for use in crowded areas, such as during the start of a race or on sections of a track where multiple opponents are clustered together. A single fireball can potentially hit several racers if they are positioned closely. The bouncing off walls is particularly effective in narrow passages or around corners. By aiming a fireball at a wall, you can create a ricochet that can catch opponents who are not directly in your line of sight. This can be a highly effective way to disrupt opponents who are trying to overtake you or who are following closely behind. On tracks with many walls and tight turns, such as Koopa Cape or Electrodrome, the Fire Flower can be used to create a continuous barrage of projectiles, making it difficult for opponents to navigate safely. It's also useful for applying continuous pressure to opponents ahead of you, forcing them to dodge or risk taking damage. While not as powerful as a direct hit from a Red Shell, the sustained offensive pressure and the potential for multiple hits make the Fire Flower a valuable offensive tool.
