- Mushroom: Provides a short burst of speed. Excellent for taking shortcuts, recovering from off-road sections, or dodging incoming items.
- Triple Mushrooms: Three Mushrooms that can be used individually for multiple speed boosts.
- Golden Mushroom: Provides unlimited Mushrooms for a short duration. Allows for sustained speed boosts and multiple shortcut opportunities.
- Star: Grants temporary invincibility, increased speed, and the ability to knock over opponents without spinning out. Also makes you immune to most item attacks.
- Boo: Steals an item from a random opponent and makes you temporarily invisible and intangible, allowing you to pass through obstacles and opponents.
- Bullet Bill: Transforms you into a Bullet Bill, automatically driving you forward at high speed, knocking over opponents, and making you invincible for a short period. You cannot steer while in Bullet Bill form.
- Mega Mushroom: Makes you temporarily giant, allowing you to crush opponents and drive over off-road sections without penalty. You also gain a speed boost.
Remember that holding an item behind you (Green Shell, Red Shell, Banana) can block incoming Red Shells and Green Shells, providing a valuable defensive layer. Always be aware of what item you have and what items your opponents might be holding.
