Key Special & Unique Items:

  • Lightning: Shrinks all opponents, sificantly reducing their speed and making them vulnerable to being squashed. Appears most often when you are in a very low position.
  • Bullet Bill: Transforms your kart into a Bullet Bill, automatically driving you forward at high speed, knocking over any opponents in your path. You are invincible during this transformation. Appears exclusively when you are in a very low position.
  • Crazy Eight: Grants you eight different items that orbit your kart: Green Shell, Red Shell, Banana, Mushroom, Star, Bob-omb, Super Horn, and Blooper. You can use them one by one. This item is incredibly powerful but requires quick decision-making to use effectively.
  • Blooper: Sprays ink on the screens of all opponents ahead of you, obscuring their vision for a short period. Less impactful on AI, but very annoying for human players.
  • Mega Mushroom: (Sometimes appears as a rare item in certain modes or versions) Makes your kart temporarily giant, allowing you to squash opponents and drive over off-road sections without penalty.

When you acquire a Crazy Eight, quickly cycle through the items to use the most appropriate one for your current situation. For example, use the Star to push through a crowd, or a Red Shell to hit a nearby opponent. The Bullet Bill is a guaranteed way to catch up, so use it wisely to maximize its distance.
