Shops & Purchasing
Throughout your adventure on Pi'illo Island, you'll encounter various shops where you can purchase essential items, gear, and even some unique power-ups. Knowing where to find these shops and what to prioritize will be crucial for your success against Antasma and Bowser's forces.
General Item Shops
These are your bread-and-butter stores, typically found in towns or major hubs. They stock healing items, stat-boosting candies, and basic gear. Always keep a healthy supply of healing items, especially before entering new areas or facing bosses.
- Mushrise Park Shop: Your first proper shop, located near the entrance of Mushrise Park.
- Key Items to Buy Early:
- Mushrooms: Always stock up. They're cheap and reliable for quick HP recovery.
- Super Mushrooms: A step up from regular Mushrooms, offering more HP restoration.
- Syrup: Essential for replenishing BP, allowing you to use Bros. Attacks more frequently.
- Strategy: After clearing the initial challenges in Mushrise Park and before heading into Dozing Sands, ensure you have at least 5-7 Super Mushrooms and 3-5 Syrups. Enemies in Dozing Sands hit harder.
- Key Items to Buy Early:
- Wakeport Shop: A more extensive shop located in the bustling port town of Wakeport. This shop will introduce better gear options.
- Key Items to Buy:
- Ultra Mushrooms: Significant HP recovery, invaluable for longer battles.
- Super Syrups: More BP restoration than regular Syrups.
- Basic Gear Upgrades: Look for new Boots, Hammers, and Badges that offer slight stat increases. Prioritize DEF and POW for Mario and Luigi.
- Strategy: Before tackling Mount Pajamaja, invest in the best available gear here. The enemies on the mountain are tougher, and having improved defense and attack power will make a noticeable difference. Don't be afraid to spend your coins; you'll find more as you progress.
- Key Items to Buy:
- Somnom Woods Shop: Found deeper into your journey, this shop offers high-tier consumables and some of the best early-to-mid game equipment.
- Key Items to Buy:
- Max Mushrooms: Full HP restoration. Crucial for boss fights.
- Max Syrups: Full BP restoration. Keep a few on hand for extended Bros. Attack usage.
- Advanced Gear: New Boots, Hammers, and Badges will likely be available here. Pay close attention to their stat bonuses and equip them strategically. For example, a Badge that boosts speed might be more beneficial for Luigi, while Mario could benefit from a POW-boosting one.
- Strategy: This is a good point to re-evaluate your entire inventory. Sell any outdated gear to free up coins and stock up on the best healing and BP items. Somnom Woods and the areas beyond will test your party's endurance.

Gear Shops & Upgrades
While general shops often carry basic gear, some locations might have specialized vendors or unique items. Always check every shop you encounter, as their inventory can differ.
- Badge Shops: Specific vendors or sections within larger shops will sell Badges. Badges provide passive bonuses or activate powerful effects when combined.
- Strategy: Early game, focus on Badges that boost basic stats like POW, DEF, or SPEED. As you progress, look for Badges that offer more specialized effects, such as increased coin drops, critical hit chance, or even HP regeneration. Experiment with different Badge combinations to find what suits your playstyle best. For instance, a Badge that increases the chance of a "Excellent" rating on Bros. Attacks can be incredibly powerful.
- Accessory Vendors: Similar to Badges, certain accessories can be purchased to provide additional benefits. These might include items that reduce damage taken, increase experience gain, or improve item drop rates.
- Strategy: Prioritize accessories that complement your current strategy. If you're struggling with survivability, a defensive accessory is a good choice. If you're grinding for levels, an XP-boosting accessory is ideal.
Purchasing Strategies
- Coin Management: Coins are plentiful if you consistently battle enemies and explore thoroughly. Don't hoard them excessively, especially in the early game. Investing in better gear and ample healing items will save you more trouble (and potentially more coins from retrying battles) in the long run.
- Selling Old Gear: As you acquire new and better equipment, sell your outdated gear. This provides a steady stream of income that can be reinvested into consumables or even better future upgrades.
- Pre-Boss Stock-Up: Before entering any major boss battle, always return to the nearest shop and ensure your inventory is fully stocked with Max Mushrooms, Max Syrups, and any other specialized items you might need (e.g., 1-Up Mushrooms if you anticipate KOs).
- Dream World Shops: Keep an eye out for unique shops or vendors within the Dream World. These often carry exclusive items or gear that can't be found in the real world. Their stock might be limited, so purchase wisely.
