Don't just use items as soon as you get them. Hold onto a Star for a crucial Hyper Strike attempt, or save a Red Shell to interrupt an opponent's Hyper Strike. Consider the current game state: are you on offense or defense? Is the opponent charging a shot? Timing your item usage can be the difference between a goal and a turnover.
