Bask Ruins

Welcome to the Bask Ruins, your first major challenge in Adventure Mode! This ancient, sun-baked area will test your basic tennis skills and introduce you to some key mechanics. Pay close attention to the tutorials here, as they lay the groundwork for the rest of your journey.

Area Overview

The Bask Ruins are characterized by their sandy courts and the occasional environmental hazard. Your primary objective here is to retrieve the first of the five Power Stones, guarded by a formidable opponent.

Walkthrough

1. Initial Exploration & Tutorial

  • Upon entering the Bask Ruins, you'll immediately be guided through a series of introductory challenges.
  • First Challenge: Basic Shots. This segment focuses on teaching you the different shot types (Topspin, Slice, Flat, Lob, Drop Shot). Practice hitting each shot accurately.
  • Second Challenge: Zone Shots & Zone Speed. You'll learn how to activate Zone Speed to slow down time and aim precise Zone Shots. Master this, as it's crucial for breaking opponents' rackets and dealing heavy damage.
  • Item Location: After completing the Zone Shot tutorial, look for a hidden chest near the back wall of the tutorial court. It contains 50 Coins.

2. The Goomba Gauntlet

After the initial tutorials, you'll encounter your first real obstacle: a series of Goomba opponents.

  • Goomba Match 1 (Easy): A standard tennis match against a single Goomba. Focus on consistent returns and using basic shot types effectively.
  • Goomba Match 2 (Medium): You'll face two Goombas in a doubles match. This is a good opportunity to practice aiming your shots to exploit gaps in their defense. Utilize lobs and drop shots to force them out of position.
  • Item Location: After defeating the second Goomba pair, a path to the left will open. Follow it to find a chest containing a Power Up Mushroom (increases character stats for one match).

3. The Ancient Guardian: Boss Battle

The main event of the Bask Ruins is the boss battle against the Ancient Guardian, a giant Piranha Plant.

  • Opponent: Piranha Plant (Boss)
  • Strategy:
    1. The Piranha Plant will primarily use powerful, fast shots. Your main goal is to charge your Energy Gauge quickly.
    2. Phase 1: Focus on returning its shots consistently. When its mouth is open, aim a well-timed Zone Shot directly into its mouth. This will stun it.
    3. Phase 2: While stunned, the Piranha Plant will drop small Piranha Plants onto the court. These act as obstacles. Use Zone Speed to navigate around them and continue hitting the main Piranha Plant with Zone Shots.
    4. Racket Breaks: The Piranha Plant has multiple rackets. Each time you successfully hit it with a Zone Shot while its mouth is open, its racket will take damage. Break all its rackets to win.
    5. Special Tip: If you're struggling, remember to use Trick Shots to quickly gain energy and avoid difficult returns. Conserve your energy for Zone Shots on the boss itself.
  • Reward: Upon defeating the Piranha Plant, you will acquire the First Power Stone.

4. Post-Boss Exploration

  • After securing the Power Stone, the path forward to the Piranha Plant Forest will unlock.
  • Item Location: Before leaving, check the area behind where the Piranha Plant boss was located. There's a hidden alcove with a chest containing a Star Coin (used for purchasing gear in the shop).

Congratulations on clearing the Bask Ruins! You've learned essential skills and acquired your first Power Stone. Prepare for more challenges in the Piranha Plant Forest!
