Inferno Island Walkthrough
Path to the Volcano
Upon arriving at Inferno Island, your first objective is to navigate the treacherous path leading to the volcano's summit. The ground here is often covered in lava, and fire-breathing Piranha Plants are a common nuisance. Keep an eye out for hidden paths and item boxes.
- First Area: Lava Lake Shore
- Challenge: Lava Piranha Plant Rally. You'll face a series of Piranha Plants spitting fireballs onto your side of the court. Your goal is to return their shots while avoiding the fiery projectiles. Focus on charged flat shots to quickly dispatch them.
- Strategy: Use your Zone Shot to target multiple Piranha Plants at once. Special Shots can also clear a significant portion of the court. Prioritize taking out the Piranha Plants closest to the net first.
- Hidden Item: After clearing the Piranha Plant Rally, check behind the large volcanic rock on the far-right side of the court for a Power String (Level 2). This string boosts your shot power significantly.
- Second Area: Volcanic Ascent
- Challenge: Rising Lava Court. The court itself will periodically rise and fall, changing the trajectory of your shots. Additionally, fire geysers will erupt, creating temporary hazards.
- Strategy: Time your shots carefully with the court's movement. When the court is lower, use lobs to clear the net. When it's higher, aim for flat shots or topspins. The fire geysers can be used to your advantage; if an opponent is caught in one, they'll be stunned, giving you a free point.
- Item Location: On a small ledge to the left of the Volcanic Ascent, you'll find a chest containing a Speed Shoes (Level 3). These shoes provide a substantial increase to your character's movement speed.
Boss Battle: Volcanic Bowser
At the peak of Inferno Island, you'll confront Volcanic Bowser, a formidable opponent who utilizes the fiery environment to his advantage. This battle is a multi-phase encounter that requires both offensive and defensive prowess.
- Phase 1: Fiery Servants
- Volcanic Bowser will initially send out a wave of Fire Bros. and Hammer Bros. to challenge you. They will attempt to overwhelm you with powerful shots and special attacks.
- Strategy: Focus on breaking their rackets with charged shots and Zone Shots. Prioritize the Hammer Bros. as their hammer throws can be particularly disruptive. Conserve your energy for the later phases.
- Phase 2: Lava Surges
- Bowser himself enters the fray, and the court will be periodically engulfed in lava surges, reducing your playable area. He will also unleash powerful charged shots.
- Strategy: Stay mobile and anticipate the lava surges. Use slice shots to force Bowser to the edges of the court, making him more susceptible to Zone Shots. When the court is small, use lobs to buy yourself time.
- Weak Point: Bowser's shell will glow red after he performs a powerful charged shot. This is your window to land a powerful Zone Shot or Special Shot to deal significant damage.
- Phase 3: Meteor Shower
- In his final phase, Volcanic Bowser will summon meteors that rain down onto your side of the court, creating additional hazards. His shots become even more powerful and unpredictable.
- Strategy: This phase is about survival and precision. Dodge the incoming meteors while returning Bowser's shots. Use your Star Shots strategically to stun him and create openings. Don't be afraid to use your Special Shot if you have it, as it can clear multiple meteors and damage Bowser.
- Reward: Defeating Volcanic Bowser will unlock the Fire Flower Racket, which grants a significant boost to your character's power and provides a small chance to ignite opponents' rackets.
With Volcanic Bowser defeated, Inferno Island will cool down, and you'll be one step closer to retrieving the legendary rackets!
