Savage Sea
Welcome to the Savage Sea, a treacherous aquatic region that will test your precision and timing. This area introduces unique challenges centered around water hazards and powerful opponents. Prepare for a gauntlet of rallies where the environment itself is a formidable foe.
Navigating the Coral Maze
Your journey through the Savage Sea begins with the Coral Maze. This area features a series of short, intense rallies against various aquatic enemies. The key here is to master your Zone Shots and Trick Shots to clear the court quickly. Don't be afraid to use your Special Shot when multiple opponents are clustered together.
- Challenge: Clear 5 consecutive rallies without taking damage.
- Strategy: Focus on hitting deep shots to push opponents to the back of the court, then use drop shots to catch them off guard. Conserve your energy for Zone Speed to react to fast-moving projectiles.
- Reward: Upon successful completion, you'll receive the Aqua Racket, which slightly increases your shot power when playing on water-themed courts.
The Sunken Shipwreck
Next, you'll encounter the Sunken Shipwreck. This section is a gauntlet of Piranha Plants and Bloopers that emerge from the water. The court itself will have shifting water levels, affecting ball bounce and your movement speed. Be mindful of the shadows indicating where Bloopers will splash down, temporarily obscuring your vision.
- Challenge: Defeat 10 Piranha Plants and 5 Bloopers within a 3-minute time limit.
- Strategy: Prioritize taking out Bloopers first with powerful flat shots or lobs, as their ink can be a major hindrance. For Piranha Plants, use slice shots to curve the ball around their defensive positions.
- Hidden Item: Look for a sparkling spot near the mast of the shipwreck after defeating the enemies. A well-placed Trick Shot towards it will reveal the Tidal Charm, which grants a small boost to your energy gauge regeneration.
Boss Battle: Kingfin
The culmination of the Savage Sea is the intense boss battle against Kingfin, a colossal Cheep Cheep with a penchant for powerful serves and disruptive water attacks. This battle takes place on a court surrounded by turbulent waters, and Kingfin will frequently summon smaller Cheep Cheeps to interfere.
Kingfin's Attack Patterns:
- Tidal Wave Serve: Kingfin's serves are incredibly fast and create a small tidal wave upon landing, pushing you back if you're too close. Use Zone Speed to get into position and return with a powerful flat shot.
- Cheep Cheep Swarm: Kingfin will occasionally summon a swarm of smaller Cheep Cheeps that will swim across your side of the court, acting as obstacles. Use Star Shots or powerful Topspins to clear them out quickly.
- Hydro Blast: Kingfin charges a powerful shot that creates a massive geyser where it lands. This shot is unblockable with a normal return; you must use a Zone Shot or Special Shot to counter it.
Battle Strategy:
- Energy Management: Conserve your energy for Zone Shots to counter Kingfin's Hydro Blasts and for Zone Speed to deal with his fast serves and Cheep Cheep swarms.
- Target Weak Points: Kingfin's weak point is his dorsal fin, which glows briefly after he performs a Hydro Blast. Hit it with a powerful shot to stun him and open him up for a follow-up.
- Clear the Minions: Don't let the Cheep Cheeps overwhelm you. A well-timed Special Shot can clear a large group, giving you breathing room to focus on Kingfin.
- Racket Durability: Kingfin's powerful shots can quickly wear down your racket. Consider equipping a racket with high durability, such as the Steel Racket, or having a spare Standard Racket ready.
Defeating Kingfin will grant you the Oceanic Orb, a crucial item for progressing further in your adventure, and unlock the ability to play on the Savage Sea Court in Free Play mode.
