Card Synergies and Combos
Marvel Snap's depth truly shines when you start understanding how different cards interact and create powerful synergies. Building a deck isn't just about picking strong individual cards; it's about creating a cohesive unit where the sum is greater than its parts. This is where the advice to "Tailor Your Deck" becomes incredibly important.
Understanding Archetypes: Many decks are built around specific archetypes, which are essentially playstyles enabled by card synergies. For example:
- Destroy: Cards like Carnage, Deathlok, and Venom work together to destroy your own cards, often to gain power or trigger beneficial effects. Cards like Nova and Bucky Barnes benefit greatly from being destroyed.
- Discard: Cards like Blade, Lady Sif, and Morbius benefit from discarding cards from your hand, often gaining power or enabling powerful late-game plays with cards like Ghost Rider.
- On Reveal: Many decks focus on triggering "On Reveal" abilities multiple times. Cards like Wong, Odin, and Mystique can amplify the effects of other On Reveal cards like White Tiger or Ironheart.
- Ongoing: Conversely, "Ongoing" decks focus on stacking powerful persistent effects. Cards like Spectrum, Captain America, and Ant-Man can create formidable boards when their abilities are active.
Key Combo Examples:
- Wong + Mystique + Odin: Play Wong to double your On Reveal effects. Then play Mystique to copy Wong's ability. Finally, play Odin to trigger all On Reveal effects on that location twice more. This can lead to massive power swings.
- Nova + Bucky Barnes + Carnage: Play Bucky Barnes. If he's destroyed (e.g., by Carnage), he becomes a 6-power card. Then play Nova to give all your other cards +1 power. Carnage can then destroy Bucky Barnes (and potentially other cards) to gain their power.
- Devil Dinosaur + Moon Girl: Devil Dinosaur gains +2 power for each card in your hand. Moon Girl, if played on turn 5 when you have fewer than 7 cards, duplicates your hand, allowing you to play two copies of Devil Dinosaur or other hand-size dependent cards on turn 6.
When building your deck, think about how your cards can support each other. Don't just focus on individual card power; consider the potential for explosive turns and consistent performance through synergistic plays.
