Combat Power Synergy Guide
Mastering power synergy is key to dominating combat in Mass Effect 2. Combining biotic and tech powers can create devastating chain reactions, often referred to as "explosions." The most common and effective explosions involve a "primer" power that weakens an enemy, followed by a "detonator" power that triggers the explosion.
Biotic Explosions: These are triggered by detonating a biotic primer like Singularity or Warp with another biotic power such as Throw or Shockwave. For example, casting Singularity to group enemies and then detonating it with Throw will deal significant area-of-effect damage. Adepts excel at this, with powers like Pull and Push also serving as effective detonators.
Tech Explosions: These are created by priming enemies with tech powers like Incinerate or Overload and then detonating them with another tech power. Cryo Blast can also prime targets for a tech detonation. Squadmates like Tali (with her Energy Drain and Shield Overload) and Mordin (with Incinerate) are excellent for setting up tech explosions. A common combo is Incinerate followed by Overload for a potent burst of damage.
Power Combos: Some powers can prime and detonate simultaneously, or interact with other power types. For instance, Reave can prime enemies for a biotic explosion and also deal damage over time. Certain squadmate abilities, like Garrus's Disruptor Ammo, can also prime enemies for tech detonations. Understanding which powers can prime and which can detonate, and how they interact with different enemy defenses (barriers, armor, shields), will allow you to create devastating combat chains and overcome even the toughest foes.
