Stasis
Stasis is a unique and highly tactical biotic power in Mass Effect 2 that temporarily freezes a single enemy in time. This ability is invaluable for crowd control, allowing Shepard to isolate threats, reposition, or set up devastating combos. Mastering Stasis can significantly alter the flow of combat and improve survivability.
Stasis is unlocked through the biotic power progression. Once acquired, it can be assigned to your power wheel. The base version of Stasis encases a single target in a protective bubble, rendering them immobile and invulnerable for a short duration. This makes them an easy target for follow-up attacks or allows Shepard to focus on other threats.
The true power of Stasis is realized through its upgrades. As you invest points, you can increase the duration of the Stasis effect, the number of targets it can affect, and its ability to detonate biotic combos. Some evolutions even allow Stasis to pull enemies towards the target, creating a concentrated point of vulnerability.
Stasis Evolution Paths:
| Evolution | Description |
|---|---|
| Stasis I | Base effectiveness, freezes one target. |
| Stasis II | Increased duration of the Stasis effect. |
| Stasis III | Increased damage dealt to the frozen target, or ability to affect multiple targets. |
| Stasis IV | Choice between increased biotic damage and recharge speed, or a larger area of effect and the ability to pull enemies. |
| Stasis V | Choice between detonating biotic combos or a significantly increased duration and the ability to freeze multiple targets. |
Stasis is incredibly versatile. You can use it to freeze a dangerous enemy like a Krogan Battlemaster or a Collector Captain, allowing your squad to focus fire on them without fear of retaliation. Alternatively, you can freeze a group of weaker enemies to thin them out one by one, or use it to create an opening to escape a dangerous situation.
A particularly effective strategy is to combine Stasis with other biotic powers. For instance, if you use Singularity to group enemies, you can then freeze one of them with Stasis. If your Stasis is upgraded to detonate biotic combos, this can trigger a massive explosion, damaging all enemies caught in the Singularity. This creates a powerful biotic chain reaction that can clear out entire groups of enemies quickly.
When facing bosses or particularly challenging encounters, Stasis can be a lifesaver. Freezing a boss momentarily can give you precious seconds to heal, reload, or reposition your squad. Experiment with different upgrade paths to find the Stasis evolution that best complements your playstyle and the challenges you face in Mass Effect 2.
