Your character's origin story in Mass Effect is more than just a background detail; it influences your initial experiences, dialogue options, and even specific assments. Understanding your chosen origin—Spacer, Colonist, or Earthborn—and its associated assments can provide deeper insight into Shepard's motivations and connections within the galaxy.

These origin assments are typically encountered early in the game and serve to flesh out Shepard's past. They often involve revisiting familiar locations or interacting with individuals from Shepard's formative years. Completing these assments not only provides valuable experience and gear but also unlocks unique dialogue opportunities throughout the rest of the game.

The three primary character origins and their associated assments are:

• Spacer: If you choose the Spacer origin, your assments might involve reconnecting with your mother or dealing with remnants of your military upbringing. These quests often explore themes of duty and family.
• Colonist: For the Colonist origin, assments typically revolve around the tragic events of the Shanxi colony. You might be tasked with finding survivors or uncovering the truth behind the attack, exploring themes of loss and resilience.
