Exploration Basics
The Mass Effect galaxy is vast and filled with wonders, dangers, and countless opportunities for discovery. While the main story will guide you through critical missions, much of the game's richness lies in its exploration. Understanding how to navigate the galaxy, interact with environments, and uncover hidden secrets will sificantly enhance your experience and provide valuable resources.
Exploration in Mass Effect Legendary Edition primarily takes place in two distinct modes: navigating the galaxy map aboard the Normandy and traversing planets or space stations on foot. Each mode offers unique avenues for discovery and resource acquisition. Don't rush through areas; take your time to look for hidden pathways, interact with objects, and listen to ambient dialogue, as these often lead to side quests, lore entries, or valuable loot.
- Galaxy Map Navigation: Use the galaxy map on the Normandy's bridge to travel between star systems and planets. Look for highlighted systems or planets indicating available missions or points of interest.
- Planetary Exploration (ME1 Mako): In the first Mass Effect, many planets are explored using the Mako all-terrain vehicle. Drive carefully, use your radar to identify anomalies, resource deposits, and enemy encampments. Don't be afraid to disembark and explore on foot for hidden items or specific mission objectives.
- On-Foot Exploration (All Games): When on planets, space stations, or inside facilities, thoroughly check every room and corner. Interact with computers, crates, and terminals. Many side quests, lore entries, and valuable items are found off the beaten path.
- Resource Scanning (ME2 & ME3): In Mass Effect 2 and 3, you'll scan planets from orbit to find resources like Element Zero, Iridium, Platinum, and Palladium. Pay attention to the scanner's readings and deploy probes strategically to maximize your gains. These resources are crucial for upgrading your ship and gear.
