Basic Controls & Interface
Navigating the vast universe of Mass Effect requires a firm grasp of its controls and user interface. On PC, movement is typically handled with the WASD keys, with the mouse controlling camera and aiming. The 'E' key is often used for interaction, such as opening doors, picking up items, or initiating conversations. Combat commands are mapped to various keys, allowing you to take cover with 'C', use abilities with number keys, and issue orders to your squadmates. The interface provides essential information at a glance, including your health, shield status, and available abilities. A mini-map in the corner of the screen displays your immediate surroundings, highlighting objectives and potential threats.
The inventory screen, accessed via a dedicated key (often 'I'), allows you to manage your weapons, armor, and items. Here, you can equip new gear, apply weapon and armor upgrades, and review your character's stats and abilities. The squad screen, typically accessed through a radial menu or dedicated button, lets you manage your companions, view their equipment, and select their combat abilities. Dialogue is presented through a cinematic wheel, allowing you to choose your responses and influence the narrative. Understanding these fundamental controls and interface elements is paramount for efficient exploration, effective combat, and making impactful narrative choices throughout your adventure on the Normandy and beyond.
