Understanding the fundamental differences in how your powers affect synthetic and organic enemies is paramount to success in Mass Effect. Synthetics, such as Geth units and various robotic constructs, possess shields and armor that react differently to various damage types. Organic enemies, like Krogan, Turians, and Asari, primarily rely on health and biotic barriers. This distinction directly impacts the effectiveness of your abilities and weapon choices.

For synthetic enemies, powers that disrupt electronics and energy systems are highly effective. An Engineer's Overload ability is a prime example, dealing substantial bonus damage to shields and temporarily disabling synthetic targets. Similarly, the Incinerator's Incinerate ability, while dealing fire damage, also has a secondary effect that can damage synthetic armor. The Soldier's Disruptor Ammo upgrade sificantly boosts damage against synthetics. When facing Geth, focusing on these types of powers will sificantly shorten engagement times and reduce the risk of taking heavy damage.

Organic enemies, on the other hand, are more vulnerable to biotic and concussive forces. Adept abilities like Warp, which deals damage over time and weakens biotic barriers, are incredibly effective. The Vanguard's Charge ability, while primarily a melee attack, also has a concussive effect that can stagger organic foes. For classes that rely on ammunition upgrades, Anti-biotic Rounds can provide a sificant damage boost against organic targets. Powers that cause physical disruption, like the Soldier's Concussive Shot, are also excellent for interrupting organic enemy attacks and creating openings.

some abilities have a dual effectiveness. For instance, the Adept's Singularity can lift both synthetic and organic enemies, allowing for crowd control regardless of enemy type. However, the damage-over-time effects of abilities like Warp are generally more pronounced against organic targets. When choosing your squadmates, consider their class specializations to ensure you have a balanced approach to combat. For example, having both an Engineer with Overload and an Adept with Warp provides excellent coverage against both synthetic and organic threats encountered throughout the galaxy, from the Citadel to the uncharted worlds of the Terminus Systems.
