NPC Interactions & Relationships
Building strong relationships with the various Non-Player Characters (NPCs) in Medieval Dynasty is crucial for the growth and prosperity of your village. From recruiting new villagers to securing a spouse and heir, understanding how to effectively interact and manage these relationships will be key to your success.
Building Reputation and Dynasty Points
Every interaction you have with NPCs contributes to your overall standing in the world. Your "Dynasty Reputation" (visible in the 'Management' tab of your journal) is a global score that unlocks new building types, technologies, and even allows you to recruit more villagers. "Relationship Points" are specific to individual NPCs and determine their willingness to join your village, marry you, or offer unique quests.
- Completing Quests: The primary way to earn both Dynasty Reputation and Relationship Points is by completing quests offered by NPCs. Look for exclamation marks above their heads. These can range from simple delivery tasks to more complex hunting or crafting requests.
- Daily Greetings: Simply greeting NPCs each day (by approaching and pressing the interact key, usually 'F') provides a small, consistent boost to their individual Relationship Points. This is a low-effort, high-reward strategy for maintaining good standing.
- Gift Giving: While not always necessary, giving gifts can significantly boost Relationship Points with specific NPCs. Pay attention to their dialogue for hints about their preferences. For example, a hunter might appreciate a well-crafted
Stone Axe or a stack ofRoasted Meat , while a farmer might preferFertilizer orGrain . - Trading: Engaging in trade with NPCs, even if just buying a few items, can subtly improve your standing over time.
Recruiting Villagers
As your Dynasty Reputation grows, you'll be able to recruit more villagers to your settlement. Each villager has unique skills and preferences, making their placement in your village vital for efficiency.
- Identify Potential Recruits: Wander through the various villages like Gostovia, Denica, or Borowo. Look for NPCs with a "Recruit" dialogue option when you interact with them.
- Check Their Skills: Before recruiting, check their skill levels in categories like
Extraction ,Hunting ,Farming ,Production , andDiplomacy . You can view these by highlighting them and pressing the 'Alt' key. Aim to recruit individuals whose skills align with the jobs you need filled (e.g., a highExtraction skill for a Miner or Woodcutter). - Meet Relationship Requirements: Most NPCs will require a certain level of Relationship Points with you before they agree to join. Continue to greet them daily and complete any quests they offer until their Relationship is high enough.
- Have Available Housing: You must have an empty house (e.g., a
Small House orSimple Small House ) in your village for a new recruit to move into. - Assign Jobs: Once recruited, immediately assign them a job in the 'Management' tab (N key). Unassigned villagers will consume food and resources without contributing.
Marriage and Family
Securing a spouse is a core aspect of Medieval Dynasty, allowing you to have an heir and ensure the continuation of your lineage.
Finding a Spouse
Female NPCs in any village can be potential spouses. Look for those who are single and have a positive disposition towards you.
- Increase Relationship: Focus on building a high Relationship score with a potential spouse. Daily greetings, quest completion, and thoughtful gifts are paramount. Gifts like
Flowers (found in the wild or grown in aFarm Field ),Jewelry (crafted at aWorkshop once unlocked), or even well-preparedFood items can be very effective. - Engage in Dialogue: Regularly speak with your chosen NPC. New dialogue options related to romance will appear as your Relationship grows.
- Propose Marriage: Once your Relationship is sufficiently high (often around 70-80%), a "Propose Marriage" option will become available. Be prepared for a potential rejection if your Relationship isn't quite high enough, which will temporarily lower your Relationship score.
Life with a Spouse and Heir
Once married, your spouse will move into your house and can be assigned a job like any other villager. They will also eventually bear you an heir.
- Heir's Growth: Your heir will grow from a baby to a child, and eventually to an adult who can take over your role. Their skills will develop over time, influenced by their parents' skills and any tasks they are assigned as they grow older.
- Spouse's Needs: Ensure your spouse has access to food, water, and warmth, just like other villagers. A happy spouse contributes to a happy home and village.
Managing Villager Happiness
Happy villagers are productive villagers. Their mood affects their work efficiency and their willingness to stay in your settlement.
- Provide Essentials: Ensure a consistent supply of
Food ,Water , andFirewood for all villagers. These are managed through theFood Storage andResource Storage buildings. - Adequate Housing: Each villager needs their own house. Upgrade
Simple Small Houses toSmall Houses for better insulation and comfort, especially in colder seasons. - Appropriate Jobs: Assign villagers to jobs that match their highest skills. A miner with high
Extraction will be happier and more efficient than one with highFarming . - Village Decorations: Later in the game, certain decorative buildings and items can improve overall village mood.
- Avoid Overwork: While not explicitly a mechanic, ensuring a balanced workload and providing all necessities generally keeps villagers content.
