Marriage & Family Life

Establishing a family in Medieval Dynasty is crucial for the long-term prosperity and succession of your burgeoning settlement. A wife provides not only companionship but also contributes to your village's workforce and, eventually, provides an heir to carry on your legacy. This section will guide you through the process of finding a spouse, getting married, and raising a family.

Finding Your Future Spouse

The journey to matrimony begins with finding a suitable partner. Women of marriageable age can be found in various villages across the Valley. Your relationship with a potential spouse is tracked by a "Dynasty Reputation" score, which you can view in the character information panel when speaking to them. This score needs to be sufficiently high before marriage proposals are accepted.

  • Where to Look:
    • Borowo: Often has several single women.
    • Gostovia: A good starting point, as it's typically the first village you encounter.
    • Denica, Lesnica, Rolnica, Tutki: Expand your search to these larger settlements for more options.
  • Building Reputation:
    • Dialogue Options: Engage in conversation with potential wives. Choose positive and agreeable dialogue options. Avoid anything that might be perceived as rude or dismissive.
    • Gifts: Offering gifts significantly boosts your reputation. The effectiveness of gifts varies, but generally, more valuable or desired items have a greater impact.
      • Flowers: Simple and effective early on. Look for Daisies, Lilies, or other common wildflowers.
      • Jewelry: Once you have access to a Workshop and the necessary resources (e.g., Copper Bar, Bronze Bar, Silver Bar, Gold Bar), crafting Rings or Necklaces is highly effective.
      • Food: Cooked meals, especially those requiring multiple ingredients (e.g., Meat with Gravy, Potage), are appreciated.
      • Tools/Clothing: Less impactful than jewelry or flowers for romance, but can still provide a small boost if you have nothing else.
    • Quests: Completing personal quests for a woman or her family can also improve your standing.
  • Checking Progress: Regularly check your Dynasty Reputation with a woman by speaking to her and observing the dialogue options. Once it reaches a certain threshold (typically around 70-80%), the option to propose marriage will appear.

The Proposal and Marriage

Once your Dynasty Reputation with a woman is high enough, you can propose marriage. This is a significant step and requires careful consideration.

  • The Proposal:
    • Initiate dialogue with the woman you wish to marry.
    • Select the dialogue option related to marriage (e.g., "I wish to marry you" or similar).
    • If your reputation is sufficient, she will accept. Congratulations!
  • Moving In: After she accepts, your wife will automatically move into your House. Ensure you have a suitable house ready for her. A simple Small House is sufficient initially, but you may want to upgrade to a House or Stone House for better comfort and future family growth.
  • Wife's Role: Your wife will automatically be assigned to a job in your village. She will contribute to the village's production based on her skills. You can manage her assignment through the Management Tab (N key by default).

Having Children

Children are the future of your dynasty. After marriage, your wife will eventually become pregnant.

  • Conception:
    • There is a random chance each season for your wife to become pregnant after marriage.
    • Ensure your wife is living in a comfortable house. While not strictly required, a higher-tier house (e.g., Stone House) can subtly influence the chances.
    • Spend time at your home during the evening or night. While not explicitly stated as a mechanic, some players report higher chances when You character is present at home.
  • Pregnancy:
    • Once pregnant, your wife will have a visible "pregnant" status.
    • Pregnancy lasts for three seasons.
    • During pregnancy, your wife will continue her assigned work, though her work efficiency might slightly decrease in the later stages.
  • Childbirth:
    • At the end of the third season of pregnancy, your child will be born.
    • You will receive a notification of the birth.
    • The child will appear in your house and be listed in your Management Tab under "Family."
  • Raising Children:
    • Children start as infants and will slowly grow over time.
    • They do not require direct care from the player, but ensuring your village has sufficient food and resources is important for overall happiness.
    • Children will eventually grow into teenagers and then adults. Once they reach adulthood (18 years old), they can be assigned jobs in your village, just like any other villager.
    • Your firstborn son is your designated heir. If you die, you will continue playing as your heir.

Family Management Tips

  • House Upgrades: As your family grows, consider upgrading your house. A larger house provides more space and comfort, which contributes to your wife's and children's happiness.
  • Resource Management: Ensure your village has a stable supply of food, water, and firewood. A happy family and village are productive ones.
  • Legacy Planning: Having multiple children provides a safety net in case something happens to your primary heir. It also provides more potential workers for your growing settlement.
  • Interacting with Family: While there aren't extensive dialogue options with children, you can still interact with them and observe their growth.
