Dolinovodno & The Bridge

Upon your initial insertion into Tselinoyarsk during the Virtuous Mission, your journey begins in the dense jungle. After a brief introductory cutscene, you'll find yourself in the Dolinovodno area. This section serves as your first real test of stealth and environmental traversal. Your primary objective here is to cross the Dolinovodno River via the dilapidated bridge.

Navigating Dolinovodno

The Dolinovodno area is characterized by its lush vegetation, a winding river, and the crucial bridge. Expect to encounter your first few Soviet soldiers here, providing an excellent opportunity to practice your CQC (Close Quarters Combat) and stealth mechanics. Remember, the goal of the Virtuous Mission is reconnaissance and retrieval, so minimizing casualties and remaining undetected is paramount for a higher mission score.

  • Initial Approach: As you gain control, move forward cautiously. The path will lead you towards the river.
  • Enemy Patrols: You'll typically find one or two guards patrolling the immediate riverbank before the bridge. Utilize the tall grass and bushes for cover. Practice your stealth takedowns (holding an enemy at gunpoint, CQC chokeholds) to neutralize threats quietly.
  • River Crossing Options:
    • Swimming: You can swim across the river, but be mindful of the current and any patrolling guards on the opposite bank. Swimming is slower and leaves you exposed.
    • The Bridge: This is the intended path. The bridge itself is in disrepair, with gaps and weak points.

Crossing the Dolinovodno Bridge

The bridge is a critical choke point and is usually guarded. There are multiple ways to traverse it, each with its own risks and rewards:

  1. Stealthy Bridge Crossing (Recommended):
    • Under the Bridge: This is often the safest and most overlooked route. Drop down into the river below the bridge. You can crawl along the support beams or swim underneath, emerging on the other side largely undetected. This path is excellent for avoiding direct confrontation.
    • On the Bridge (Cover & CQC): If you choose to cross directly on the bridge, use the broken sections and railings for cover. There's often a guard patrolling the bridge itself. Wait for them to turn their back, then approach for a CQC takedown or a tranquilizer shot. Dispose of the body discreetly (e.g., throw it into the river or hide it behind debris).
  2. Aggressive Bridge Crossing (Not Recommended for Virtuous Mission):
    • Engaging guards in open combat on the bridge will likely alert others in the vicinity. While possible, it goes against the spirit of the Virtuous Mission and will negatively impact your mission score. Save the heavy firepower for Operation Snake Eater.

Key Items & Collectibles in Dolinovodno (Virtuous Mission)

While the Virtuous Mission is primarily about reconnaissance, there are still some useful items to find:

  • Ration: Often found near the riverbanks or hidden in the foliage. Essential for restoring health.
  • Mk22 (Tranquilizer Pistol) Ammo: Look for these near guard posts or hidden in crates. Crucial for non-lethal takedowns.
  • Binoculars: You should already have these, but if not, ensure you pick them up. They are vital for scouting ahead.
  • Medicinal Plants: Keep an eye out for various plants that can be used for healing or stamina recovery.

Common Pitfalls & Tips

  • Don't Be Seen: The primary objective is stealth. If you're spotted, try to break line of sight and hide. If an alert is triggered, consider restarting from your last save if you're aiming for a perfect score.
  • Use Your Radar: Your radar (if equipped) is invaluable for tracking enemy positions and their cones of vision.
  • CQC Practice: Dolinovodno is a great place to get comfortable with CQC. Experiment with different moves: holding enemies up, interrogating them, or knocking them out.
  • Save Frequently: There are no checkpoints in the original Virtuous Mission, so save often, especially after successfully neutralizing a threat or crossing a difficult section.

Once you have successfully crossed the Dolinovodno Bridge, you will proceed deeper into the jungle towards your next objective: the retrieval of Sokolov from the research facility. There are no boss encounters in Dolinovodno during the Virtuous Mission; that challenge awaits you much later in Operation Snake Eater.
