Collectibles
Beyond the core mission objectives, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is rich with various collectibles that offer both practical advantages and satisfying completionist goals. This section will detail the most significant collectibles, their locations, and strategies for acquiring them.
Kerotan Frogs
These elusive green frog figurines are hidden throughout every area of the game. Shooting all 64 Kerotan Frogs with any weapon unlocks the Stealth Camouflage item, a powerful tool for remaining undetected. Pay close attention to environmental details, as many are cleverly concealed.
- Strategy:
- Listen for their distinct croaking sound, which intensifies as you get closer.
- Use your binoculars (press R3) to scan areas thoroughly, especially high ledges, under bridges, and inside structures.
- Some frogs require specific vantage points or even CQC throws to reveal.
- A successful hit will produce a unique "ribbit" sound and a visual confirmation. If you're unsure, check your mission log for the count.
- Key Locations (Early Game Examples):
- Dremuchij Swampland: Look on top of the large tree stump near the exit to Dremuchij North.
- Dremuchij North: Perched on a high branch of the large tree in the center of the area. You'll need to aim carefully.
- Dolinsko: Inside the small hut on the eastern side of the area, often obscured by shadows.
Camos and Face Paints
Finding new camouflage patterns and face paints is crucial for effective stealth. These items are often found in hard-to-reach places, inside lockers, or as rewards for specific actions. They directly impact your camouflage index, making you harder to spot.
- Strategy:
- Always check every nook and cranny, especially in enemy bases and caves.
- Use the directional microphone to listen for items behind walls.
- Some camos are dropped by specific bosses or enemies.
- check under beds, inside lockers, and on high shelves.
- Notable Camos/Paints and Acquisition:
- Splitter Camo: Found in Rassvet, inside the building where you first meet EVA. Check the lockers.
- Water Camo: Located in the Chyornyj Prud area. Dive into the water and search the underwater ledges.
- Desert Face Paint: Acquired after defeating The Fear. His body will drop it.
- Ga-Ko Camo: A special camo found in the Graniny Gorki Lab, in the sewers section. It's often near water.
- Animals Camo: Earned by defeating The End non-lethally (using tranquilizer rounds). This is one of the most powerful camos for stealth.
Healing Items & Rations
While not strictly "collectibles" in the traditional sense, maximizing your inventory of healing items, rations, and specialized equipment is vital for survival. These are scattered generously throughout the environment but can be easily missed.
- Strategy:
- Thoroughly explore every area, even those that seem empty.
- Break open crates and boxes (shoot or CQC slam) to reveal hidden items.
- Check under vehicles, behind large rocks, and in small alcoves.
- Prioritize collecting medical supplies like Life Medicine, Bandages, and Disinfectant, especially before major encounters.
- Rations are your primary source of health recovery in the field. Always keep a good stock.
- Essential Items to Stockpile:
- Instant Noodles: A quick and easy way to restore stamina.
- Calorie Mates: Good for sustained stamina recovery.
- Ointment: Heals burns and cuts.
- Splint: Essential for broken bones.
- Styptic: Stops bleeding quickly.
Weapons & Ammunition
While many weapons are acquired through story progression, several powerful firearms and unique ammunition types are hidden, offering significant advantages. Always be on the lookout for weapon caches.
- Strategy:
- Search guard posts, armories, and enemy encampments thoroughly.
- Some weapons are only found by defeating specific enemies or bosses in certain ways.
- Always pick up ammunition for weapons you plan to use, as it can be scarce for some types.
- Hidden Weapons of Note:
- XM16E1: Found in the Rassvet area, near the entrance to the building where you find EVA. It's a powerful assault rifle.
- SVD Sniper Rifle: Located in the Ponizovje Warehouse. It's often on a high platform or in a locked room. Essential for long-range engagements.
- Mousetrap: Not a weapon, but a useful item for catching small animals. Found in various outdoor areas, often near animal trails.
