The Cocoon is a massive, heavily armored AI weapon that presents a significant challenge. Unlike previous AI battles, the Cocoon is stationary but boasts an array of devastating attacks. Your primary objective is to destroy its AI pods, located on various levels of the machine.

Recommended Loadout

Phase 1: Lower Level Assault

Begin by positioning yourself on the ground level. The Cocoon will immediately begin its assault with various weaponry. Your initial focus is to expose the AI pods on its lower section.

  1. Destroy Armor Plates: Use your M47 Dragon to target the large, circular armor plates on the Cocoon's lower body. There are typically two or three accessible from the ground. Each plate requires several direct hits to break.
  2. Engage Pupa Units: As you damage the Cocoon, it will deploy Pupa units from its sides. Switch to your M16A1 or PKM to quickly eliminate these threats. They can be a nuisance if left unchecked.
  3. Expose and Damage AI Pods: Once an armor plate is destroyed, an AI pod will be exposed. Immediately switch back to your M47 Dragon and fire rockets directly into the exposed pod. Repeat this process for all accessible lower-level pods.
  4. Utilize Supply Drops: Keep a close eye on your rocket launcher ammunition. When low, deploy a Supply Marker in a safe area to call in a resupply.

Phase 2: Ascending the Cocoon

After destroying the lower AI pods, you'll need to climb the Cocoon to reach its upper levels. Be wary of its powerful attacks during this ascent.

  1. Locate the Ladders: There are ladders located on the sides of the Cocoon that allow you to climb to the next platform. Find the nearest one and begin your climb.
  2. Dodge Attacks: The Cocoon will frequently use its machine guns and cannon attacks. Stay mobile and use the environment for cover when possible. Its large cannon attack has a clear charge-up animation, giving you a brief window to move to safety.
  3. Repeat Armor Destruction: On each subsequent level, you'll find more armor plates covering AI pods. Use your M47 Dragon to destroy these plates and then target the exposed pods.
  4. Beware of the Rolling Attack: On the higher platforms, the Cocoon may initiate a "rolling" attack where it sweeps its body across the platform. When you see it preparing for this, quickly find a safe spot or hang from a ledge to avoid being knocked off.

Phase 3: The Topmost Pods

The final set of AI pods are located on the very top of the Cocoon. This is often the most challenging part of the fight due to the limited cover and increased intensity of attacks.

  1. Reach the Top Platform: Continue climbing the ladders until you reach the highest accessible platform.
  2. Prioritize AI Pods: Immediately identify the remaining AI pods. They are often clustered together. Focus all your M47 Dragon fire on these pods.
  3. Constant Movement: Staying still on the top platform is a death sentence. Continuously move, using the small structures for momentary cover from the Cocoon's machine guns.
  4. Final Push: Deplete the remaining AI pods' health. Once the last pod is destroyed, the Cocoon will be defeated.
