Mission 5: Showdown with Gene
This mission marks the climactic confrontation with Gene. Be prepared for a challenging boss battle that tests your combat and tactical skills. Ensure your squad is well-equipped and healed before deploying.
Recommended Loadout & Squad
- Snake: Equip him with the M16A1 for sustained fire and the Mousin Nagant for quick, silent headshots on any lingering guards before the boss. Bring plenty of Rations and Life Medicine.
- Support Unit: A high-level Medic is crucial for healing your active combatant. Consider a Spy for intel gathering on the map before engaging Gene, though direct confrontation is inevitable.
- Grenades: Stock up on Frag Grenades and Stun Grenades. They are invaluable for disrupting Gene's attacks and creating openings.
Phase 1: Approach to Gene's Chamber
The mission begins in a familiar area, likely the underground base leading to Gene's location. While the primary objective is Gene, you'll encounter a few guards on your way. Stealth is recommended to conserve health and ammo for the boss fight.
- From the start, move cautiously through the initial corridors. There will likely be 1-2 guards patrolling the first few rooms. Use the Mousin Nagant for silent takedowns or CQC to avoid alerting others.
- As you progress, you'll reach a larger open area or a series of interconnected rooms. Expect more resistance here. Prioritize headshots with the M16A1 if stealth is compromised.
- Look for any hidden Rations or Ammo Boxes along the way. They are often tucked away in corners or behind crates.
- The path to Gene is generally linear. Follow the main corridors, and you'll eventually reach a large, distinct chamber – this is Gene's arena.
Phase 2: Boss Battle - Gene
Gene is a formidable opponent with a unique set of attacks and patterns. Understanding his moves is key to victory.
Gene's Attack Patterns:
- Psycho Blast: Gene charges and unleashes a powerful energy wave. This is telegraphed by a distinct glowing aura.
- Teleportation: Gene frequently teleports around the arena, making him difficult to track and target consistently.
- Blade Combo: At close range, Gene will engage in a series of swift, damaging blade attacks.
- Summoned Illusions: Occasionally, Gene will create shadowy duplicates of himself. These illusions can attack and distract you.
Strategy for Defeating Gene:
- Maintain Distance (Initially): Start by keeping a medium distance. This allows you to react to his Psycho Blast and Teleportation.
- Dodge the Psycho Blast: When Gene charges his Psycho Blast, immediately roll or sprint to the side. The blast has a narrow but powerful hitbox.
- Exploit Teleportation: After Gene teleports, he often pauses for a brief moment before his next attack. This is your primary window for attack. Use the M16A1 to unleash a burst of fire. Aim for headshots if possible for critical damage.
- Counter Blade Combo: If Gene closes the distance for his Blade Combo, try to roll behind him or use a Stun Grenade to interrupt his attack and create an opening for your own offensive.
- Deal with Illusions: When Gene summons illusions, prioritize taking them out quickly. They have less health than Gene but can be a nuisance. A well-placed Frag Grenade can clear multiple illusions if they are grouped.
- CQC Opportunity: After Gene performs certain attacks or takes significant damage, he may be briefly stunned. This is your chance to close in and execute a CQC combo for extra damage. Be quick, as he recovers rapidly.
- Utilize Cover: The arena will have some environmental cover. Use it to your advantage to break line of sight and reload or use Rations. However, be aware that Gene's Psycho Blast can penetrate some lighter cover.
- Patience and Observation: Gene's fight is a test of endurance and pattern recognition. Don't rush; observe his movements and attack when you have a clear opening.
- Emergency Healing: Don't hesitate to use Rations or Life Medicine when your health drops below 50%. Your support unit's Medic will also be crucial here.
Once Gene's health bar is depleted, the mission will conclude, and you will have successfully overcome one of the game's most challenging adversaries.
