Episode 5: Over the Fence

This mission introduces you to the Fulton Recovery System, a crucial tool for expanding your Mother Base and acquiring valuable resources. Your primary objective is to extract a specific prisoner from a heavily guarded outpost. Stealth is highly recommended for an S-Rank, but you can also go in guns blazing if you prefer a more direct approach.

Mission Prep & Loadout

  • Buddy: D-Horse is your best bet for quick traversal and escaping detection.
  • Weapons:
    • Primary: Tranq Pistol (WU S.Pistol) for non-lethal takedowns.
    • Secondary: Non-lethal assault rifle (e.g., AM MRS-4R with rubber bullets) for backup.
    • Support: Fulton Recovery System (essential).
  • Items: Binoculars, Cardboard Box (for quick concealment), Night Vision Goggles (if attempting at night).

Infiltrating Wakh Sind Barracks

You'll start a fair distance from the Wakh Sind Barracks. Mount D-Horse and ride towards the objective marker. As you approach, dismount and use your binoculars to scout the area thoroughly. Pay close attention to guard patrols, sniper nests, and the location of the prisoner.

  • Observation Point: There's a good vantage point on the hill overlooking the barracks from the west. From here, you can mark most of the guards.
  • Guard Patrols: Expect at least 5-6 guards patrolling the main barracks area, plus a sniper on the water tower and another on the building to the east.
  • Prisoner Location: The target prisoner is usually held in the small building on the eastern side of the barracks, often guarded by one or two soldiers.

Stealth Approach (Recommended for S-Rank)

  1. Initial Entry: Approach the barracks from the west. There's a gap in the fence near the western guard post. Wait for the patrolling guard to move away before slipping through.
  2. Neutralize Outer Guards:
    • Take out the guard patrolling near the western entrance first. Use a tranquilizer shot to the head or a CQC takedown. Fulton him out for extra GMP and recruits.
    • Proceed cautiously towards the main barracks. There's often a guard near the central tent.
  3. Deal with Snipers:
    • The sniper on the water tower has a wide line of sight. Prioritize taking him out. You can often get a clear shot with your tranq pistol from a distance.
    • The second sniper on the eastern building can be dealt with after securing the lower level.
  4. Locate the Prisoner: Head towards the eastern building. There will likely be a guard inside or patrolling just outside. Neutralize him quietly.
  5. Extract the Prisoner:
    • Enter the building and locate the prisoner. He's usually tied up.
    • Approach him and initiate the Fulton Recovery. Ensure no guards are looking directly at the building during the extraction, as it can alert them.
  6. Exfiltration: Once the prisoner is extracted, you can either sneak out the way you came or call D-Horse for a quick escape from the hot zone.

Alternative (Loud) Approach

If stealth isn't your strong suit or you're going for a different challenge, you can engage the enemy directly. Be prepared for heavy resistance.

  • Suppressing Fire: Use your assault rifle to suppress and eliminate enemies. Aim for headshots to conserve ammo.
  • Cover: Utilize the various structures and vehicles for cover.
  • Grenades: Flashbangs can disorient groups of enemies, while stun grenades can incapacitate them for a quick takedown.
  • Prisoner Extraction: Even in a loud approach, try to extract the prisoner quickly once you've cleared the immediate vicinity.

Key Collectibles & Side Objectives

  • Resources: Keep an eye out for Rough Diamonds and various resources (fuel, common metal) scattered around the barracks. Use your iDroid to mark them.
  • Intel Files: There may be intel files on tables or in buildings that reveal guard locations or other mission details.
  • Recruits: Fulton every unconscious or stunned enemy you encounter. This is a great way to build up your Mother Base staff early on.

S-Rank Tips

  • Speed: Complete the mission as quickly as possible.
