Disc 1 Walkthrough

Welcome to the comprehensive walkthrough for Disc 1 of Metal Gear Solid! This section will guide you through every step, ensuring you don't miss crucial items or encounter unnecessary difficulties. Remember to utilize your Codec frequently for hints and story progression.

Cargo Dock

  • Objective: Infiltrate the facility.
  • Upon landing, swim forward and surface at the northern end of the dock.
  • Crouch (X button) and move along the wall to avoid detection by the lone guard patrolling the area.
  • Locate the ventilation shaft opening on the ground level. Crawl (X button + D-pad) inside.
  • Follow the shaft until you reach the next area.

Holding Cells

  • Objective: Locate and rescue the DARPA Chief.
  • Exit the ventilation shaft. You'll find yourself in a room with several holding cells.
  • Proceed cautiously. There's usually one guard patrolling this area. Use stealth to avoid confrontation or perform a quick three-hit combo (Circle button rapidly) to incapacitate him.
  • The DARPA Chief is held in the cell on the far right. Approach the cell door and interact with it (Circle button) to trigger a cutscene.
  • After the cutscene, you'll receive the Card Key Lv. 1.
  • Before leaving, check the other cells. One contains Ration and another holds SOCOM Ammo.
  • Exit through the door marked with a green light, using your newly acquired Card Key.

Tank Hangar

  • Objective: Reach the Armory.
  • This large area features multiple levels and patrolling guards. Prioritize stealth.
  • From the entrance, head right and take the stairs up to the second level.
  • On the second level, you'll find an elevator. Call it and ride it up to the third floor.
  • Once on the third floor, proceed through the door to the next section.
  • Optional: Explore the ground floor of the Tank Hangar for additional Rations and SOCOM Ammo, but be wary of the increased guard presence.

Armory

  • Objective: Acquire essential weaponry.
  • Upon entering, you'll find yourself in a corridor. Head straight.
  • The first room on your left contains the SOCOM Pistol and some SOCOM Ammo. pick these up.
  • Continue down the corridor. The next room on the left holds the Grenades.
  • Further down, you'll find a room with the Thermal Goggles. These are crucial for detecting tripwires and enemies in dark areas.
  • Exit the Armory and return to the Tank Hangar.

Tank Hangar Revisited & Elevator to B1

  • Objective: Descend to the Basement 1 level.
  • Back in the Tank Hangar, head to the ground floor.
  • Locate the elevator on the western side of the hangar. This elevator will take you to Basement 1.
  • Be prepared for a potential encounter with a guard near the elevator.

Nuclear Warhead Storage B1

  • Objective: Locate the President's daughter, Meryl.
  • Upon exiting the elevator, you'll be in a long corridor.
  • Proceed cautiously. There are security cameras and patrolling guards. Use the corners and crates for cover.
  • Look for a door on the right side of the corridor, marked with a red light. This leads to a small office.
  • Inside the office, you'll find Meryl. A cutscene will trigger.
  • After the cutscene, you'll receive the Card Key Lv. 2.
  • Before leaving, check the shelves in the office for a Ration.
  • Exit the office and continue down the main corridor.
  • Use your new Card Key to open the door at the end of the corridor, leading to the next area.

Nuclear Warhead Storage B2

  • Objective: Confront Revolver Ocelot.
  • This area is a maze of storage rooms and corridors.
  • Navigate through the initial rooms, picking up any SOCOM Ammo you find.
  • You'll eventually reach a larger chamber where you'll encounter Revolver Ocelot and the DARPA Chief.
  • A boss battle will commence.

Boss Battle: Revolver Ocelot

  • Strategy: Ocelot uses a Revolver and will ricochet bullets off the walls. Stay behind cover as much as possible.
  • Utilize the pillars and crates in the room for protection.
  • When Ocelot reloads, this is your window of opportunity to pop out and fire a few shots with your SOCOM.
  • Alternatively, you can try to throw grenades when he's exposed, but be careful not to hit yourself with ricochets.
  • Keep moving and don't stay in one spot for too long.
  • After defeating Ocelot, a significant cutscene will play, advancing the story.
