Base Building & Layouts
Your Base Camp is your sanctuary and your primary hub for survival in Dite. A well-designed layout is crucial for efficient resource management, defense, and overall progress. This section will guide you through optimizing your base, from initial setup to advanced defensive strategies.
Initial Base Camp Setup
Upon establishing your Base Camp, your first priority is to secure essential facilities. Focus on these early constructions:
- Water Purifier: Critical for providing clean drinking water, preventing dehydration. Place it near a water source if possible for faster collection, though its function is not location-dependent within the base.
- Food Processor: Converts raw food items into edible rations, essential for staving off hunger. Prioritize upgrading this to increase processing speed and yield.
- Crafting Table: Your primary station for creating tools, weapons, and base defenses. Position it centrally for easy access.
- Storage Chests: Expand your inventory capacity significantly. Place multiple chests near your Crafting Table and other frequently accessed facilities for convenience.
Strategy: In the early game, prioritize functionality over aesthetics. Clump essential facilities together to minimize travel time within the base. Don't overextend your initial defenses; focus on basic perimeter walls.
Defensive Structures & Placement
As you progress, the Wanderers will become more aggressive. Robust defenses are paramount. Consider these structures and their optimal placement:
- Perimeter Walls:
- Wooden Walls: Your starting defense. Use these to create an initial barrier around your core facilities. Upgrade to Metal Walls as soon as resources allow.
- Metal Walls: Significantly more durable than wood. Create concentric layers of Metal Walls for maximum protection.
- Placement Strategy: Build walls in a staggered pattern, creating choke points and forcing Wanderers into kill zones. Avoid straight, unbroken lines that can be easily breached.
- Watchtowers:
- Function: Provides elevated positions for your defense units (e.g., Scouts, Combat Units) to engage enemies from a distance.
- Placement Strategy: Position Watchtowers at corners of your perimeter and overlooking choke points. Ensure they have clear lines of sight to incoming enemy waves.
- Barricades & Fences:
- Function: Slows down Wanderers, allowing your defenses more time to engage. Barricades are temporary, while fences offer more persistent obstruction.
- Placement Strategy: Use Barricades within choke points to funnel enemies. Fences can be used to guide Wanderers along specific paths towards your traps or defensive units.
- Traps:
- Spike Traps: Inflict damage on Wanderers that step on them.
- Explosive Traps: Deal significant area-of-effect damage.
- Placement Strategy: Place Spike Traps directly in the path of incoming waves, especially within choke points. Reserve Explosive Traps for high-density enemy routes or against larger, tougher Wanderers. Combine traps with walls and fences to maximize their effectiveness.
Optimizing Layout for Efficiency
Beyond defense, an efficient base layout streamlines your daily operations:
- Resource Processing Hub: Group your Water Purifier, Food Processor, and any future resource extractors (e.g., Ore Extractor, Wood Processor) in a dedicated area. This minimizes travel for resource collection and processing.
- Crafting & Storage Zone: Keep your Crafting Table, Repair Bench, and all Storage Chests in close proximity. This allows for quick crafting, repairs, and inventory management without excessive running.
- Medical Bay (Later Game): Once unlocked, place your Medical Bay near your living quarters or a central area for easy access to healing and status effect removal.
- Power Generation: If you've unlocked generators, place them strategically to power multiple facilities without needing excessive power lines. Consider a central power hub.
Advanced Defensive Strategies
As your Base Camp grows and the threat level increases, consider these advanced tactics:
- Kill Zones: Designate specific areas where Wanderers are funneled and subjected to concentrated fire from multiple Watchtowers and traps. Use walls and fences to guide them into these zones.
- Concentric Defense: Build multiple layers of walls. If the outer layer is breached, the inner layer provides a secondary defense, buying you time to repair or redeploy.
- Airspace Defense: While less common, some Wanderers can traverse obstacles. Consider placing Watchtowers with good vertical coverage to engage these threats.
- Unit Deployment: Strategically place your recruited defense units (Scouts, Combat Units) on Watchtowers or patrol routes to maximize their effectiveness. Assign them to specific choke points or high-traffic areas.
Remember, your Base Camp is a living entity. Regularly inspect your defenses, repair damaged structures, and adapt your layout as new threats emerge and new facilities become available. Experiment with different configurations to find what works best for your playstyle and resource availability.
