Enemy Database
Welcome to the comprehensive Enemy Database for Metroid Dread! This section details the various hostile creatures and mechanical threats you'll encounter across Planet ZDR. Understanding their attack patterns, weaknesses, and effective strategies is crucial for Samus Aran's survival and mission success. We've categorized enemies by their primary habitat or type for easier navigation.
Basic Fauna & Flora
These are the most common adversaries you'll face. While individually not a huge threat, they can quickly overwhelm Samus in groups or when combined with environmental hazards.
Zebesians
- Description: Small, insectoid creatures often found clinging to walls or ceilings. They typically drop down to attack or spit small projectiles.
- Locations: Artaria, Cataris, Dairon.
- Strategy:
- One shot from your Power Beam is usually enough to dispatch them.
- Use a Charge Beam shot for groups.
- If they drop from above, a quick Melee Counter can stun and destroy them instantly, often yielding health or missile pickups.
Muzby
- Description: Plant-like organisms that remain stationary but fire slow-moving projectiles. They often appear in hard-to-reach spots.
- Locations: Artaria, Ghavoran.
- Strategy:
- Prioritize them if they're in your line of sight, as their projectiles can be annoying.
- A single Missile will destroy them quickly.
- Alternatively, use a few Power Beam shots. If they are out of direct firing range, a well-placed Charge Beam can often hit them.
Klaida
- Description: Flying creatures that often move in predictable patterns. Some variations will dive at Samus, while others fire energy bursts.
- Locations: Cataris, Burenia.
- Strategy:
- Observe their flight path. A well-timed Power Beam shot or two will take them down.
- For diving variants, a Melee Counter as they approach can be effective and rewarding.
- When in water, use your Grapple Beam to pull yourself closer for a shot, or use Storm Missile if you have it for quick targeting.
Elite & Specialized Threats
These enemies pose a greater challenge and often require more specific tactics or advanced weaponry to defeat. They frequently guard important pathways or items.
Robot Chozo Soldier
- Description: Heavily armored robotic constructs, often wielding shields or spears. They have high health and powerful attacks.
- Locations: Artaria (early encounter), Dairon, Ferenia.
- Strategy:
- Shielded Variant: These are vulnerable from behind. Use your Slide or Flash Shift to get behind them and unleash Missiles or Charge Beam shots. A successful Melee Counter when they charge can open them up for massive damage.
- Spear Variant: These have a wider attack range. Dodge their thrusts and look for openings. Storm Missiles are excellent for quickly breaking their guard or dealing damage during brief windows.
- General Tip: Always try to get a Melee Counter in when possible, as it leaves them vulnerable for a barrage of attacks.
Armored EMMI
- Description: The terrifying Extraplanetary Multiform Mobile Identifiers. These nearly invincible robots patrol designated zones and are an instant-kill threat if they catch Samus.
- Locations: EMMI Zones (found throughout ZDR).
- Strategy:
- Avoidance is Key: Your primary goal is to avoid detection. Use Phantom Cloak to become invisible, especially when an EMMI is close.
- Stealth Movement: Crouch and move slowly to reduce noise. Utilize vents and hidden passages.
- EMMI Core Destruction: The only way to defeat an EMMI is to absorb an Omega Stream or Omega Blaster from a Central Unit.
- Locate and destroy the Central Unit in the EMMI Zone.
- Absorb the Omega energy.
- Find the EMMI. Charge your Omega Stream (L button) and aim for its head. This will strip its armor.
- Once the armor is gone, immediately switch to Omega Blaster (R button) and fire a fully charged shot at its exposed core. This is a one-shot kill.
- Melee Counter (Last Resort): If an EMMI grabs you, you'll have two very small windows for a Melee Counter. Success allows you to escape, but failure means instant death. This is extremely difficult to pull off consistently.
X-Parasite (Post-Raven Beak)
- Description: After a certain point in the story, X-Parasites will begin to appear, infecting defeated enemies. They are small, gelatinous blobs that home in on Samus.
- Locations: All areas, after a major plot development.
- Strategy:
- Absorption is Beneficial: Unlike previous Metroid titles, absorbing X-Parasites in Dread restores Samus's health and missiles.
- Prioritize Absorption: Let them come to you. They are not a threat if absorbed.
- Avoid Damage: If you're low on health, try to defeat enemies and then absorb the X-Parasites to recover.
- Charge Beam Effect: A Charge Beam shot will often cause multiple X-Parasites to appear from a single defeated enemy, allowing for more recovery.
