Boss Strategies
Conquering the formidable bosses of Metroid Fusion requires more than just brute force; it demands tactical precision, understanding attack patterns, and utilizing Samus's evolving arsenal effectively. This section provides detailed, actionable strategies for each major encounter, ensuring you emerge victorious.
Arachnus
- Location: Main Deck, after restoring power to the elevator.
- Preparation: Ensure you have at least two Energy Tanks. The Charge Beam is your primary weapon here.
- Strategy:
- Arachnus will initially roll around the room. Jump over it to avoid contact damage.
- When it stops, it will either rear up and spit fireballs or attempt a close-range claw attack.
- Fireball Attack: This is your primary opening. As it spits fireballs, jump and fire fully charged shots directly at its head. Each charged shot deals significant damage.
- Claw Attack: If it gets close and prepares a claw attack, quickly jump over it and continue firing charged shots as it recovers.
- After taking enough damage, Arachnus will retreat into a ball and roll rapidly. Continue to jump over it, anticipating its movements. It will eventually uncurl, allowing you to resume your attack pattern.
- Maintain a safe distance, prioritize dodging its attacks, and focus your charged shots on its head.
Zazabi
- Location: Sector 1 (SRX), after activating the Navigation Room.
- Preparation: Having the Morph Ball and a few Missile Tanks will be highly beneficial.
- Strategy:
- Zazabi is a large, insectoid creature that clings to the ceiling. It will drop down to attack.
- Phase 1 (Ceiling): While on the ceiling, Zazabi will periodically drop smaller, fast-moving larvae. Shoot these larvae with your Beam to clear them out and prevent being overwhelmed.
- Phase 2 (Ground Attack): Zazabi will eventually drop to the ground. This is your main opportunity to deal damage.
- When on the ground, Zazabi will charge at Samus. Use the Morph Ball to quickly roll under its charges, avoiding damage.
- As Zazabi charges past you, quickly unmorph and fire Missiles at its exposed underside. Regular Beam shots also work, but Missiles are far more effective.
- After a few charges, Zazabi will jump back to the ceiling, repeating the cycle.
- Focus on dodging its ground charges with the Morph Ball and unleashing Missiles when its underside is vulnerable.
Serris
- Location: Sector 2 (TRO), after restoring power to the Water Supply.
- Preparation: The Speed Booster is crucial for this fight. Ensure you understand how to activate it.
- Strategy:
- Serris is an incredibly fast aquatic creature. The battle takes place in a flooded chamber.
- Serris will dart around the room at high speeds. Your regular Beam shots are largely ineffective against its armored body.
- Weak Point: Serris's only vulnerable spot is its head, but only when it briefly stops or slows down.
- Speed Booster Activation: The key to this fight is using the Speed Booster. Run back and forth across the long platforms at the top and bottom of the room to build up speed.
- Once the Speed Booster is active (Samus glows blue), quickly press down to store the charge.
- Shinespark Attack: When Serris is in a position where you can hit its head, release the Shinespark (jump and press B). Aim to collide with its head. This deals massive damage.
- Serris will occasionally create whirlpools that pull Samus in. Swim against the current to avoid being trapped.
- After taking damage, Serris will become even faster. You may need to activate the Speed Booster multiple times per attempt to hit it.
- This fight is a test of timing and precision with the Shinespark. Patience is key.
Giant Core-X (After Serris)
- Location: Sector 2 (TRO), immediately after defeating Serris.
- Preparation: No specific items needed beyond what you have.
- Strategy:
- After Serris is defeated, its Core-X will appear. This Core-X is larger and more aggressive than standard Core-X enemies.
- It will float around the room, occasionally dashing towards Samus or firing projectiles.
- Weak Point: The Core-X's eye is its only vulnerable spot.
- Fire Missiles directly at its eye. Charged Beam shots can also work, but Missiles are more efficient.
- Avoid contact with the Core-X itself and its projectiles. The room is relatively small, so spatial awareness is important.
- After taking enough damage, the Core-X will split into several smaller X-Parasites. Absorb these to regain health and missiles.
- The Core-X will then reform and continue its attack. Repeat the process until it is defeated and you can absorb the Serris Core-X, granting you the Speed Booster ability.
