Fusion Suit Abilities

The Fusion Suit, while initially a stripped-down version of Samus's iconic Power Suit, gradually regains its full functionality as you absorb various abilities from the X Parasites. Understanding when and where to acquire these upgrades is crucial for progression and survival in the B.S.L. Research Station.

Suit Upgrades

These core upgrades enhance Samus's defensive capabilities and provide access to previously inaccessible areas.

  • Varia Suit: This essential upgrade significantly reduces damage taken from environmental hazards and enemy attacks, particularly in high-temperature zones.
    • Location: Sector 6 (NOC).
    • Acquisition: After defeating the Serris boss in Sector 4 (AQA), you'll gain the Speed Booster. Use the Speed Booster to break through a series of Speed Booster Blocks in Sector 6 (NOC) to reach the X Parasite containing the Varia Suit data.
    • Strategy: The path to the Varia Suit requires precise Speed Booster execution. Practice your Shinespark technique to clear the long horizontal stretch of blocks.
  • Gravity Suit: The Gravity Suit allows Samus to move freely through water and lava without impediment, and also grants a substantial defense boost.
    • Location: Sector 5 (ARC).
    • Acquisition: Following the defeat of the Yakuza boss, navigate through Sector 5 (ARC) to a room with a large pool of water. The X Parasite containing the Gravity Suit data is located within this pool.
    • Strategy: With the Gravity Suit, underwater combat becomes much easier. You'll also be able to access new areas in various sectors that were previously blocked by water or lava.

Movement Abilities

These abilities are vital for navigating the complex environments of the B.S.L. station, allowing Samus to reach new heights and bypass obstacles.

  • Morph Ball: This classic ability allows Samus to curl into a small ball, fitting into narrow passages and dropping through grates.
    • Location: Main Deck.
    • Acquisition: This is one of the first abilities you'll re-acquire. After the initial X Parasite outbreak, you'll be directed to a Data Room in the Main Deck where the Morph Ball data is downloaded.
    • Strategy: Use the Morph Ball to access hidden areas, bypass enemy defenses, and drop into lower sections of rooms.
  • Bomb: While in Morph Ball form, Samus can deploy bombs to destroy certain blocks and damage enemies.
    • Location: Sector 1 (SRX).
    • Acquisition: After acquiring the Morph Ball, proceed to Sector 1 (SRX). You'll find a Bomb upgrade in a Data Room after solving a simple puzzle involving a series of Morph Ball tunnels.
    • Strategy: Bombs are essential for uncovering hidden passages and destroying Bomb Blocks. They can also be used for "Bomb Jumps" to reach higher ledges, though this requires precise timing.
  • High Jump: This upgrade significantly increases Samus's jump height, allowing her to reach higher platforms and clear larger gaps.
    • Location: Sector 4 (AQA).
    • Acquisition: After defeating the Zazabi boss, explore Sector 4 (AQA). The High Jump data is found in a Data Room shortly after this encounter.
    • Strategy: The High Jump is a fundamental movement upgrade. Combine it with Wall Jumps to scale even greater heights.
  • Speed Booster: This powerful ability allows Samus to run at incredible speeds, breaking through Speed Booster Blocks and performing Shinesparks.
    • Location: Sector 4 (AQA).
    • Acquisition: Defeat the Serris boss in Sector 4 (AQA). The X Parasite released upon its defeat contains the Speed Booster data.
    • Strategy: Mastering the Speed Booster and its associated Shinespark technique is crucial for accessing many hidden areas and shortcuts. To Shinespark, activate Speed Booster, then press down to store the charge. Jump, then press B and a direction to launch Samus.
  • Space Jump: This ability grants Samus infinite jumps while airborne, allowing for sustained flight and exploration.
    • Location: Sector 5 (ARC).
    • Acquisition: After defeating the Nightmare boss, proceed through Sector 5 (ARC). The Space Jump data is located in a Data Room accessible after this battle.
    • Strategy: The Space Jump trivializes many platforming challenges and opens up vast new areas for exploration, especially in vertical shafts.

Weapon Upgrades

These upgrades enhance Samus's offensive capabilities, making combat more efficient and allowing her to destroy new types of barriers.

  • Charge Beam: Allows Samus to charge her Arm Cannon for a more powerful shot.
    • Location: Main Deck.
    • Acquisition: This is one of the first abilities you'll re-acquire. After the initial X Parasite outbreak, you'll be directed to a Data Room in the Main Deck where the Charge Beam data is downloaded.
    • Strategy: The Charge Beam is your primary offensive tool. A fully charged shot deals significantly more damage and can sometimes break through weaker blocks.
  • Wide Beam: Fires three projectiles simultaneously in a wider spread, increasing the chance to hit enemies and destroy multiple blocks at once.
    • Location: Sector 3 (PYR).
    • Acquisition: After defeating the Mega Core-X, navigate through Sector 3 (PYR). The Wide Beam data is found in a Data Room shortly after this encounter.
    • Strategy: The Wide Beam is excellent for clearing rooms of smaller enemies and destroying Wide Beam Blocks.
  • Plasma Beam: A powerful beam that can penetrate multiple enemies and certain types of barriers.
    • Location: Sector 1 (SRX).
    • Acquisition: After defeating the Ridley-X, proceed through Sector 1 (SRX). The Plasma Beam data is located in a Data Room accessible after this battle.
    • Strategy: The Plasma Beam is a significant damage upgrade and is required to destroy Plasma Beam Blocks.
  • Diffusion Missile: Allows missiles to explode with a wider radius, damaging multiple enemies or blocks in an area.
    • Location: Sector 2 (TRO).
    • Acquisition: After defeating the Serris boss (the second encounter), you'll gain access to a Data Room in Sector 2 (TRO) containing the Diffusion Missile data.
    • Strategy: Diffusion Missiles are excellent for clearing groups of enemies and destroying clusters of Missile Blocks.
  • Screw Attack: While spinning, Samus becomes invulnerable and damages any enemy she touches. Also destroys Screw Attack Blocks.
    • Location: Main Deck.
    • Acquisition: This is one of the final upgrades. After the events in the Restricted Lab, you will be directed to a Data Room in the Main Deck where the Screw Attack data is downloaded.
    • Strategy: The Screw Attack makes Samus a destructive force. Use it to effortlessly dispatch most enemies and break through the strongest barriers.
