Objective: Investigate Main Reactor

Following your briefing in the Navigation Room, your immediate task is to investigate the Main Reactor, which has suffered a critical power failure. This journey will take you through familiar corridors and introduce new challenges as you delve deeper into the compromised B.S.L. station.

Navigating to the Reactor Core

From the Navigation Room, exit to the left and drop down through the floor hatch. You'll find yourself in a vertical shaft. Continue descending, making your way through a series of interconnected rooms. The path is relatively linear at this point, but be vigilant.

  • Room 1 (Vertical Shaft): Descend through the floor hatch.
  • Room 2 (Connector Corridor): Head left, dealing with any Hornoads or Zeelas.
  • Room 3 (Small Chamber): Continue left. You may encounter a gate; shoot the circular mechanism to open it.

As you progress, you'll encounter several X-Parasite infected creatures. The most common threats in these initial corridors are:

  • Hornoads: These frog-like creatures hop erratically. A single shot from your Arm Cannon will dispatch them, releasing their X-Parasite. Absorb the X-Parasite for health or missile refills.
  • Zeelas: Small, insectoid enemies that cling to walls and ceilings. They often move in predictable patterns and are easily dealt with. Use a single shot to eliminate them and absorb their X-Parasite.

You will encounter several gates blocking your path. These are typically opened by shooting the circular mechanism located directly above or beside them. A single shot is usually sufficient. Continue following the path, which will generally lead you downwards and to the left. You'll pass through several more connecting rooms, some featuring small platforms or minor environmental obstacles. Keep an eye out for any hidden energy or missile refills, though they are scarce in this initial segment.

Reaching the Main Reactor Area

Eventually, you will arrive at a larger, more open chamber that serves as the entrance to the Main Reactor complex. This area is noticeably more damaged and unstable, reflecting the critical state of the station's power grid. The ambient lighting will be dimmer, and sparks will occasionally fly from damaged conduits.

Upon entering this chamber, prepare for a more intense encounter than the standard Hornoad and Zeela skirmishes. The Main Reactor area is guarded by several Puyos, which are stationary, blob-like organisms that periodically fire slow-moving energy projectiles. These can be a nuisance if not dealt with quickly. Prioritize destroying them to clear the path.

Puyo Strategy:

  • Puyos are immobile, making them easy targets.
  • A few shots from your Arm Cannon will destroy them.
  • Be mindful of their projectiles, which can be dodged by moving or jumping.
  • Absorb the X-Parasites they release for valuable health and missile recovery.

The main challenge in this room, however, comes from the environmental hazards. The reactor core itself is unstable, causing sporadic electrical discharges and falling debris. Navigate carefully, timing your movements to avoid taking unnecessary damage. You'll need to make your way across a series of platforms, often requiring precise jumps.

Environmental Hazards & Navigation:

  • Electrical Discharges: Periodically, arcs of electricity will sweep across certain platforms or sections of the floor. Observe their timing and move between safe zones. Taking damage from these will knock Samus back slightly.
  • Falling Debris: Small pieces of rubble will occasionally fall from the ceiling. These are usually indicated by a slight tremor or sound effect just before they drop. Avoid standing directly underneath them.
  • Platforming: The path involves a series of broken platforms. Use your jump to traverse gaps. Some jumps may require a running start.
  • Puyo Placement: Several Puyos are strategically placed to fire at you while you are navigating these platforms. Prioritize destroying them as soon as they come into view to reduce incoming damage. One Puyo is particularly troublesome, located on a high ledge, firing down onto a critical jumping section. Take it out with a well-aimed shot before attempting the jump.

Your goal is to reach the central console located on a raised platform near the core. As you approach it, the gravity in the room may temporarily fluctuate, adding another layer of challenge to your platforming. These fluctuations will make your jumps higher and slower, requiring adjustments to your timing. Once you reach and interact with the console, Samus will attempt to analyze the damage.

Post-Investigation Directive

After a brief analysis of the Main Reactor's critical state, the station's computer will update your objective. It will determine that the immediate priority is to restore a crucial system to aid in the repair efforts. Your next directive will be to proceed to the Data Room located in Sector 1 (SRX) to download the Charge Beam ability. This upgrade is essential for overcoming future obstacles and progressing further into the station, as it allows you to deal significantly more damage and open certain types of doors.

Exit the Main Reactor chamber the way you came, retracing your steps back towards the Navigation Room. The path will be clear of new enemies, allowing for a swift return. Be mindful of any remaining environmental hazards in the reactor room as you make your exit.
